i'm pleased to say that i avoided these sort of places, or when i went to them it was indie/alt nights... i could be found most mondays in hollywoods in romford between 95 and late 97. i stopped going after being hospitalised by a couple of local fash and decided that it really wasn't worth it.

You can almost tell by the names of some places how shite they are going to be, can't you?

There was one in my hometown (Lincoln) that consisted of two floors, one apparently more "upmarket" than the other, called, no shit, "Cinderellas Rockerfellas". Pure class.

Any of these places, when they say "Over 21s" they mean "over 15s" (except for scantily-clad jailbait that the bouncers perv over, natch).

They used to do this night, called Ritzy (!) where you paid what seemed like loads to get in, but the entry price included free (watered down) drinks all night. The blokes had to wear jacket and tie!! The girls all dressed like tarts, but in a "classy way"?!

Everyone there was wearing these ill-fitting Burtons / Top Man suits. The "management" obviously had the idea that by insisting on this dress code they would keep out the "riff-raff". How wrong they were. Every bloke there looked like the only other time the suit saw the light of day was when appearing in court following a brawl in the same club, or the other one down the road.

Happy days!

The same venue is now called "Pulse" and "Ritzy".

In the unlikely event of being tempted to have a night out clubbing in Lincoln, don't. Do something better, like gnawing your own leg off.

Giles..

I've often wondered about this. Is it possible to water down draft lager? It's all in pressurized barrels, so you'd have to tamper with the pump or something? More bother than it's worth I reckon. Unless it's just recycling drip trays. Mmmm.

The lager at my old student union and halls bars tasted sooooo watered down. But I challenged the bar manager once and he claimed it was impossible to do. It didn't matter as it was so much cheaper than a pub.

But whenever I went back to London to a normal pub, the pints knocked me for six.

Bar gaudi was cool, they served Hoegaarden years before it was popular

Yeah. When people started going on about shoreditch i thought it would be full of places like bar gaudi, but i couldn't find any.

was that by the old odeon?

Yes, that's the one. I only went, although it wasn't for the official Die Hard Night, it was a different thing more techno orientated. Pretty cool though.
