Six Nations 2009

True, meaningless was a tad harsh.

I do still think that it's an ideal opportunity to blood some new talent. Arg= tough team, tough place to play.

Thinkin about J Leonards autobiog where he talks about it is really why I think taking a several debutants would be a good idea... look how he turned out!

Totally agree with you, it is just about the most hostile rugby environment there is, probably only beaten by Dunedin and Neath:D.

The thing is the england boys are only really going to be making up the numbers in SA, one maybe two will start the first test with maybe one or two on the bench. Mostly they'll be chugging along in the midweek side and we all know how that turns out with every south african wannabe hard man wanting a piece of the action. Anyone remember Doddie Weir's "knee reversal" in 97?

France in the days of Betsen didn't play blindside and openside, they just played 6 and 7

France have never played blindisde/openside have they? As with all things on these threads I'm willing to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure just playing 6/7 is the 'French way'.

you're probably right
i dont know enough about french rugby to say either way

it seems to work pretty well for them though right

Try of the tournament, Daniellis against Italy.

Also, i think Ross Ford should be in as hooker, bigger than Flannery & Mears put together & that will be needed against, as always, a huge Bok front 3.

I am not biased in anyway.:)

I've reconsidered my try of the tournament.

It's Parisse's one against France. If ever a player deserved a try more ay. What a class player, such a shame he's surrounded by rubbish (mostly).

Heinkie van der merwe / BJ Botha
Bismark du Plessis / Willie wepenaar
Smit / Mitawarira / CJ van der Linde / J du Plessis
Victor Matfield / Bekker
John bakkies Botha / Bekker / Danie Roussouw
Juan Smit / danie Roussouw / Pedrie Wannenberg
Schalk Burger /Wickus van heerden / Kabamba Floors / Baywatch Grobbelaar
Spies / Kankowski / Jo van Niekerk
F du Preez / Krockott / Januarie
Ruan Pienaar / Butch James / Morne Steyn
Henno Mentz / Habana
Jean de Villiers ( a hard man to replace)
Adi Jacobs / Jacque Fourie
JP Pietersen / Chavanga / Ndungane (either they are twins after all)
Frans Steyn / Stephen Terblanche

Some names you might not recognise, but No 1 heinkie van de Merwe, an awesome genuine article scrummager, taken on the best new Zealand has to offer and won (take note Sheridan) and mobile to, young but the boy knows which way to push. Willi Wepenaaar, excellent hooker, mobile and tough as old boots. Baywatch Grobelaar, deserves a place in the bok squad, played consistently well over 2 season in a relatively poor team. (which I have the unfortunate honour of supporting)

Ta :).
However you look at it, the Lions are going to be severly tested & up against it regardless of what 15 you put out from the above.
No real weaknesses & probably the best back row in the world in Smith, Burger & Spies.

Baywatch Grobbelaar
That name is awesome.

Try of the tournament for me was BOD against france, came at a real decisive moment and it was like he turned the clock back 7 or 8 years, it was something which I never thought i'd see again.
