Sincerest thanks for all who came on Manchester demo!

Please say how it was for you, either being there or as a news spectator.[/QUOTE]

Brilliant turnout but to me seemed a bit pointless marching past the empty Gmex and the empty streets. Did the demo hit the main shopping area and the public. I got bored and went to the pub when the die in started.

[Q

Speakers included Eamonn McCann from the Derry Anti-War Coaltion. Eamonn is a member of the Socialist Workers Party in Derry

He sounded gruffer than usual I think his voice was going and he was shouting ... :) However, opposite polls politically! Eammon was one of the founders of the Civil Rights movement in the 60s.

It was good to see Onket and a lurker on the Peace Train. I meant to introduce you to Harpo, but I was a bit pissed on the way back.:o

Good to see you too.

I had a good day all in all after nearly frying to death in my own juices listening to the speeches before the march, like someone else said- If I'd know they were going to do that I'd have arrived later.

Fucking long train journey though wasn't it!

These specially charted trains are wonderful antiques and always take the scenic root.

The return journey flew by and was well lubricated with cans of beer. The lights in our carriage went out so we began by telling ghost stories. We then amused ourselves by having a row with the stewards :o and by shouting Bob Dylan songs and poor renditions of the Internationale. :o :o

The smoking ban was also ignored.

Our carriage was also in darkness, but we had kids in ours who were fucking irritating.

Our carriage emptied bit by bit until only our group of drunk Civil Servants remained. :o

I felt like it went pretty well overall...the anarchist bloc was a good idea & got a lot of prop handed out, also had us as *part* of the wider movement rather than on the sidelines bitching, while still being critical of, well, pretty much everything :). also bumped into someone I met last year which was cool.

it didn't achieve a great deal, tho (to echo In Bloom) it's doubtful how much in direct terms could be achieved by a protest like this anyway.

did anybody else get a leaflet from the Socialist Party? incredibly patronising shite, basically "as long as you keep staying on these single-issue campaigns you're screwed, you don't understand how things come together, it's capitalism stupid, why don't you get it, you're all going to fail, socialism is the only answer".

saw a few Hizbollah supporters with flags but they didn't seem to be made that welcome.

so yeah - overall didn't mean much but fairly positive all told.

ETA: anybody else notice one of the cops wearing a Sky News thing round his neck?

Mmm, they do seem to be preparing to change bandwagons to climate change in the near future, the STWC have been allowed to dominate the anti-war "movement", it'd be a real shame if that happened with climate change.

Southampton SWPers who I bumped into on Saturday are raving about the new Al Gore film and were visibly offended when I said I'd rather watch myself being eaten by dogs than watch that liberal crap. There's no doubt they are getting ready to hijack climate change for their own nefarious ends. I might have to get involved with the local CC group just to help keep them out.:D

Thanks Groucho. How illuminating that the SWP site has gone to the bother of showing videos of all speakers except those from the Green and Labour parties.

More Stalin than Trotsky that bit of dissapearance.
Its obviously a conspiracy.

Thanks for the tip.

Anyone who'd like to know what Reza Moradi & Shiva Mahbobi had to say should view the second recording on this page.

Moradi & Mahbobi's antagonists are very keen on the Iranian Islamist tyranny, but the ranty 'slamists in the recording are obviously namby pamby moderates - they didn't kill the dirty apostate Moradi or the dirty shameless hijabless apostate Mahbobi. (I mean they haven't killed 'em yet.)
