Because actually, they don't need the men in this film, there's no rescuing, I mean, in most of the plot lines the men seem to think it's their job to rescue the girls but they end up doing it for themselves.

they remind me of the strong female characters yuo get in soaps a bit, tarts with hearts, matriarchs, that kind of thing.

Exactly. It's the women who save the day, the women who set up that zone and the women who self-regulated it. How fucking strong do you want these women to be, Jefe? You into weightlifters or something, mate?

Deriding those characters as a wank fantasy is back handed sexism imo.

It looked good. There were guns, violence, good and evil (but even the good ones were sort of evil) and.. well, that's pretty much it.

Overrated, yep, but overall a pretty entertaining way to spend a couple of hours, I thought. Not great, but certainly not crap.

look I'm genuinely interested in people's views of the protrayal of women in the film, because I've heard the 'wank-fantasy' thing banded around quite alot, and as much as I agree, they are there to be viewed as sexual, they're also strong female characters.
