Like the tabloid reporter I used to work with who used to boast ''I'm on my third driving ban, my third marriage and my third bout of pox'' before going out to stitch up working girls in the paper for dragging down the countries moral fibre.

Somehow linking a plaque 'commemorating' the opening of a public loo to Hughes admission that he is bisexual. The headline insinuates that he has at some point been cottaging, but as far as I am aware he has never been accused of doing so.

You asked the question about how low the Scum will go I think the people of Liverpool will have the answer to that one.

I wonder what the approach to this non story (non story apart fromthe hypocrasy angle) would have been different if Hughes had come out as gay rather than bi.

It seems that bisexuality is still an easy target for lazy prejudicial journos who want to equate bisexuality with salaciousness. About 12 years ago a residential bi event was targetted by the News of the Screws because condoms were found in the waste bins. Would they have done the same with a gay or a straight event?

I'm afraid he opened himself up to such abuse 20 odd years ago by sinking to the same kind of depths of which put him in the powerful position he is in now.

And notice how he only apologised about the campaign days before he was forced to come out.
