SIM Cards for old people

Anyway I went to Tesco today and they gave me a 'triple credit sim' for £10. I was told it was only 8p per minute with no minimum spend per month, but when I double checked it online, it said 25p per minute. But as soon as you add £10 credit they triple it to £30, so that takes it back to the 8p. I wish I didn't have to explain this nonsense to my friend....

Now you are an existing customer you can switch to their true PAYG - it's called Tesco Lite 8ppm, 4p SMS, credit doesn't expire. We've had a backup phone on that tariff for years.

giffgaff do a genuine pay as you go (rather than having to pay x amount each month)

only commitment is you need to do something chargeable once every so often, think it's every 3 or 6 months and they do send an e-mail to remind you.

i have a spare / emergency phone on that, think i put ten quid on it about 5 years ago.

ee also do a genuine pay as you go - think mumtat gets through about ten quid a year on that. topping up via logging in to your account is apparently quite complicated, but theres an option to add credit to any ee payg online without logging in, which is much simpler

To fellow cheapskates out there, RWG might be worth a look.
  • Credit never expires
  • Unlimited calls & texts £3.50pm OR get a 30 boost each month - 1000 mins, 1000 texts for £3.
  • True PAYG if you want - 5ppm, 5p SMS, 1p MB data but twice a year they do a "double your top up" offer
  • We have a house mobile on a one year up front 250mins/month and will follow that in October with a two year up front (£50)
  • Web site is pants but we've had no problem phoning or emailing support
We also have personal mobiles on free forever 50/50/250 (no longer available). If we go over 50 mins, we have a double credit it dips into (2.5ppm)
