Yep, recently I've been tearing the rapidly rotting wallpaper off the walls to expose I kid u not hundreds of the fuckers making a run for it.

If I turn on a light at night I often see them scarper at breakneck speed back into the holes and crevices they call home.

I just splat the bastards with my fists, it's brought out the huntsman in me and become quite a sport. ;) :D

Has your bathroom/kitchen been renovated in anyway in the last 5 years Raver?

I was told at a meeting the other day, that realistically, atleast in my borough, to meet the Standards for Homes, if your bathroom/kitchen not been renovated in the last 5 years, you will be getting refurbishment work done as anything older then that tends to not meet the new standards.

So atleast over the next 4 years you should expect some work to be done, as I believe it is a nationwide Standard.

They both look like they haven't been done in over 20 years. Very very dated.

We have inquired but all we ever get is "we'll get back to you"

They seem to only be renovating the flats as and when people are evicted or transferred atm.

They are harmless. They were around when dinosaurs roamed the earth. They'll still be around when all humans have destroyed each other. They aren't like cockroaches. Learn to live with them.

Have you tried using a dehumidifier RaverDrew? My flat gets a bit damp occasionally but the dehumidifier works wonders.

I thought humidifiers were for dry air.
(not that I know anything much about them though...)

Kinda depends on your council, they don't like to do such extensive work when you living in them. My council boarded up my old flat and won't let anyone live in it until they finish the refurbishment on that block, which sounds like what they are doing to your block too.

You never know they might do for you what my council did for me, offer you a refurbished place to get you out while they refurbish yours. Depends on what sort of planning they are doing, my council been planning this since they found out they were getting the olympic games so they have been leaving a lot of properties empty so they can move tenants around as they refurbish.

Lambeth council

Need I say any more

They already took us to court with the threat of eviction, and lost.

They really don't know their arse from their elbow.

Eeeeeerrrrr, what the FUCK is that?!?

I've never seen one and i lived in london half my life!!!

They are not exclusive to London town mate. Generally they seem to like damp rooms but have seen them in quite a few places. Last time I stayed at my dads place I pulled back the duvet in his spare room and the little critters ran everywhere. Needless to say my dads house is a bit old, eccentric and piled 4ft high with stuff in most rooms.

They are not particulary nasty or anything IMO. Those photos are not showing 'actual size' either :)

I once picked up a soggy tea towl from behind the sofa that had been there for a considerable amount of time. I'd never seen one before but a whole nest dropped out and scattered all over the place. Freaked me right out! Thought a new species of creature had evolved in my flat.

I've got them too...

I didn't even know what they were called until a few minutes ago... :(
