Sigur Ros?

You know a band/book/film/biscuit has got a little bit too big when the 'crap/not crap' post appears on Urban.

I think a lot of people will say anything's crap if more than five people know about it

Both crap and not crap, can't stand takk - liked () thought ageconcern buyone or what ever it was called was mostly rubbish and all horribly tolkieny but loved the sven-g-englar ep. Von rocks as it's the sound of evil ice fairys and is the best thing they've ever done.

Live I have found them both mind numbingly boring and exhilerating. Alway feel they teeter too close to prog to be healthy.

When I first listened to takk, I thought, Fuck me, this is interesting - then I realised it sounded so good, because as well as Itunes, the radio was playing underneath with some matmos or something. When I removed that extra texture, I thought. Fuck me, this is boring - It's the same album again.

Have done some good stuff but give me Rothko anyday.

(hopes to spark poll!)

is there a band called Rothko?

bloody hell :)

and yes I do have issues - if, for example, I went to see a band and looked around at the audience and saw a sea of pink pringle V necked jumpers I'd be really worried that i'd somehow got it wrong - call me shallow but I can't help it ...

and photowatsit - even tho' I'm not talking to you I'll say this - there's nothing wrong with liking aband when you're stoned BUT if a band only sounds any good when you're under the influence of a drug then there is definitely something wrong ..

In my youth we used to describe such stuff as "good tripping tackle, but ..."

oh and maya - I used to play in the Cragg Vale Gamelan (as did Shirl btw) - a kind of home spun Yorkshire version of a real gamelan ... :o

i like them but they're atrocious live... although I had been standing all day in the fucking pissing rain at oxford.

Hvadd sigudurr got, or whatever. I love the way you get a discussion about an Icelandic band that the saddest Karaoke bar in Bankstraetti would rule out of court.(on Urban, that is)

Certain gloomy violinic charm when it's -7 and still humid. A Reykjavikian speciality.

"pink pringle V necked jumpers"???

Wha...???

oops looks like I broke the golden
music trainspotter rule,

I must be an idiot who loves all music coz its sounds great on druuuuugs maaaan

take yr bullshit assumptions elsewhere,
I've got smashing taste , I tell ya.

I like them.

Saw them live in 2001 and went out and bought their first (blue/alien cover) album. Some great tracks on there so I'm surprised there are so many negative posts about them. Some really beautiful slow building tracks. Also got takk recently, not so impressed with that, a few nice tracks. But the blue one, great, especially for driving...

I've only got the first two and really like both of them. There seems to be a bit of a Sigur Ros backlash going on, but such things are of no concern to me.

Slightly off topic, anyone have any opinion on Bellatrix? started off a bit lame, but saw them about 4 yrs ago in Dingwalls, they seemed fairly 'phatt' as I believe you chaps say?

I do think they're excellent, but with their last album I did think they were blurring the line between 'cool icelandic chillout/post rock' and 'bland background music'.

Uh huh? They were a bit wavery. Mark you I think I was the only person to like Ms. Gudmundsdottir's 'Homogenius' (sp?)

Something about her practicing her screaming on lava fields. Still, I believe PJ Harvey is meant to do that on a beach in Dorset. No accounting with wierdo girlies

I like them but I think they're getting worse, and have been pretty much since Agaetis Byrgun.
() is alright, but Takk Ihaven't managed to listen to properly, it seems to start ok butthen just descends.

I saw them support Godspeed You Black Emperor! at the Festival Hall in 2000 and they were absolutely mind-blowingly awe-inspiring, I imagine they'd be pretty tedious to see whilst stood up at a festival, they're not exactly prime moshing material- give me nice comfy seating and a superb sound-system to appreciate them at their finest.
They really were amazing, and I wasn't on drugs.

Music for adverts. I even tried listening to them in Iceland and I still didn't like 'em.
