One of the siamese-owners on this thread needs to do some kind of experiment and post pictures of the results.

That's a good idea.

Alternatively, I need the address of a siamese-owner on this board, and a list of times when they're likely to be out of the house :hmm:

already have. mine had an operation on her leg a couple of years ago and it grew back normal.
On her leg, where the temperature is already cooler than body temperature - it would grow back normal there. On the body it doesn't though.

No you haven't. The colour the body fur grows back after shaving depends on skin temperature - in hot weather/central heating the bald patch of skin will stay warm and the fur will grow back pale, in cold weather the bald patch will be much cooler than the surrounding insulated furry areas and will grow in darker. It isn't permanent though.

ETA: Here's a reputable link (with photo) showing the opposite - a partially shaved Siamese living in a cold climate where the shaved area was kept warm so it grew back paler than the surrounding fur, and an explanation as to why it happens:

but the reason the fur grew back white on that cat was because it was wearing a coat.
fogbat was implying that the fur would grow back a different colour if you merely shaved it off without the use of stencils.

I think siamese like company and dont fair well on their own.

Their eyes are very intense, aren't they.

Without sounding shallow, I would like a chubby siamese, but I know the real mccoy aren't in the least bit cobby.

A cobby colorpoint, with intense eyes, that is not a siamese.

Ah, but may I present a worthy contender for 'huge moggy' crown?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the majestic, domestic and, in general, absolutely wonderful mog that rejoices in the name of the 'Norwegian Forest Cat.' Also known by Norwegian folk as the 'Skogkatt' or 'Skogkatter.'

This especially majestic and beautiful example is a stud cat named Kulfi.

I wanna big cuddle of that cat

I think meezers get a bad press. People are always telling me they are 'evil'. Then I find out they have never even met one!

I blame Walt Disney

My girl is so affectionate and gentle - she never hisses or spits like my moggies do.

She was spayed and the vet did the incision on her stomach because he said it would grow back darker - it may be just slightly darker but not much, if that's any help.

I'd swap my ancient baggy old saggy old domestic shorthair for one of those lithe and densley packed looking siamese cats any day.

Are persians thought of as being a bit highly strung?

Ive got a persiany cat, and she constantly tries to rip your face off when you stroke her.

Our half-Persian is soft as a brush. Maybe it's the moggy genes...

persians? are they the really ugly squish faced blofeld cats?
or is that burmese? i always forget.

Persians are the blofeld cats, but some are long and some short-haired, and they're not all squashfaced mutant grumpy-looking - that depends on how closely they've been inbred to 'champion' (=mutant, unhappy) standard.

Burmese OTO are really just siamesers (shorthaired, elegant, yowly) but in a uniform chocolate brown colour all over and with a slightly gentler, soppier, dippier, more loving temperament. Thick as short planks, though - they have a particular tendency to wander off and get killed trying to make friends with moving cars. :(

.

Agreed. Lady and the Tramp has a lot to answer for

(It's actually a great bit if you do own one though - but should never be shown to the unconverted :D)
