Shure Ear Phones

Honestly?

I haven't rated the Sony 'phones I have owned. Don't know about these particular ones, but IMHO I very much doubt they are in the same league as the Shures or their peers.

OK. I am just going through my options in that price range.

The Sennheiser CX-300s are coming up for £6.50 plus 2 quid postage. Would they be better IYO?

Sorry I am a bit rubbish with this stuff.

Dont worry I wont hold you responsible for the out come :)

Eep - I don't know!

Ed rates Sennheiser and obviously has more experience with them than I!

I have owned 1 pair and it was a cheaper pair....I didn't like them very much, but they were ear-muff stylee rather than buds and therefore the sound isolation was very poor and thus they were not much cop on the tube. I also found that my iRiver struggled to drive them without clipping.

What is your budget...? Start at the top end!

About £15 at the most. Ill keep searching by price.

Cheers guys :)

ive had an original pair of these(one long cable, no connector) for over 5 years and although they dont get much use now theyre still fine.

I used to have those. If you find the volume going down in one (or both) ears, poke a tiny hole in the middle with a pin. That hole usually gets filled with ear gunk, and screws them up.

I wonder if they do a cheaper version of those?

Apparently they use technology from Ultimate Ears.

I've just ordered some Sennheiseer cx300's from Play.com. £4.99 with free delivery. They get some bad reviews for the bass not being as good as the Sony's Danski mentioned, but others say they buy the Sennheisers over the Sony's because of the poor build on them. Either way, for £4.99 it's not like I'm throwing all my money away.

Woo!

Lucky me gets an early birthday present from Mrs Swarf:

A lovely new pair of Shure SE530's

Epic earphone win!

Now I just need to get the Red Wine mod for my iPod and maybe a new headphone amp.....

:hmm:

Oooh lucky you! I'm going to be buying some SE420s, with custom earpieces. Just had the impressions taken this morning. Can't wait!

Happy birthday btw!

I was looking at the 420's too, but by throwing in a small contribution, I managed to wrangle an upgrade....

:D

Hope you enjoy em - wish I could get the custom earpieces too, but I wouldn't trust anyone in this country to stick their fingers in my ears.....

:hmm:

Happy birthday btw!

Thanks!

though it is still 3 weeks off........

Well I am loving my new buds - fantastic sound.

I have a nice new Predator headphone amp and a decent LOD cable on it's way for my iPod as well - may as well get the full benefit of the things eh!

Also been going back and re-ripping a lot of my CD's to Apple Lossless......

Two different sources:
Standard iPod nano
creative labs audigy 2 zs platinum pro headphone output

Cool - not tried mine with my Nano yet, but they are pretty decent.

Like I said above though, I am going through and removing/re-ripping anything below 256Kb in my collection as the limitations of a low br mp3 really come through on a good pair of 'phones.....

192 is my acceptable limit. I'll leave if it's 160 and the CD's impossible to find. Anything lower, and I find it difficult to enjoy.
