Shout to the 1980's/90's whistle crew

Didn't it come from individual ravers terming themselves and their music "old school" as new cohorts entered the dance scene over time rather than the marketing departments of major record labels creating the term?

e.g. shout out to the old-school raving crew etc etc

No :p

you need real one player for all these... itll be there waiting for you when you get home - now do some work!

"Old school" is simply a way of dating a style of music that still exists, it wasn't called that back then because it wasn't old.

The same as "old school hip hop" was just called "hip hop" in the 80's. I'd never seen an "old school" compilation when I started using the term in about 1993/4, I was just differentiating between the two types of hardcore around, the other being "happy hardcore".

I think the term "rave" has totally different connotations now, in fact I think it has a lot more of a commercial meaning than "old school" does. Smash Hits Rave, Rave Generator, Raving I'm Raving, Rave On.... It has a truer meaning as the type of event.

"Rave" pretty much means acid house and hardcore, music played at raves.

Anyway..."It's just a feeling, take control"

I was searching for my rizla

....many moons ago... /me stares blankly into the lazer lights at rage (heaven on thursdays)

---thought you might be interested in that the "keep the fires burning" sample is a Baby D sample, whose pre "letmebe your fantasy" tracks the house crew were involved in..alledgedly.

"dancin round... like a hurricane.... round and round as we search for love.... in a world gone insane" :)

My old ardcore records are my pride and joy, wasn't even old enough for raves but old enough for 2 paper rounds, a weekend job and a bit of pocket money for the regualar trips to eastern bloc and spin inn

Fuck em we didnt need em anyway as we made our own tunes. Slammed onto a dat, cut em onto acetate and spin off 50 copies of vinyl that got slung around a few mates and played out. If people liked it then maybe, just maybe if you had the cash you could get some more spun off and they'd go out round to some independant shops. Not that it mattered cos everyone was after taped sets anyway. At the start it was about playing out and throwing a party it wasn't about the cash. Yeah the cash came into it eventually once the promoters came into it but it was still about holding the biggest and best Rave you could.

The criminal justice bill came in and took what we had and helped force it mainstream if it wanted to survive. Which has led us to the superstar cunt head dj's and over inflated prices. THEY call it oldskool !!!

So fuck em its Rave, its about the culture, its about the fight to party, its the scene. Its not what SONY and there fucking ilk wanna call it. So that they can put it the right section of Virgin Fuckin Records

My defence rests yer Honuor :)

Yeah I know I go all doughy Eyed about it all BUT it was my Fucking life man. I know a CD cant give us all that back again. But FUCK ME does it trigger off some of the best memories of my life. And Im sure there at least another 20,000 people out there that will feel the same.

The whistle posse blowing !!

Could not agree more... Just downloaded CD 1 :D fucking ace brings back memories of castle M, Leachlade, (sp) etc I would like to know where 2 bad mice is :D

So are there any places that still do... So a trip down memory lane at the moment would be great :)

Not necessarily. I have Centreforce tapes from '89 where they talk about tracks from '87 / '88 being old. It's all relative really.

One man's "Rave" is another man's "Hardcore" is another man's "Old school".

Just because you and your mates would say Rave doesn't mean the other terms don't exist...

and Ratpack were / are shit...

His mixing was not great, tracks left too long... But it still took me back to the good old days and that made me happy :)

Yeah Ratpack couldn't mix a bag of dolly mixtures really.

But thats the point. He couldn't then and he cant now and when your off yer face in a tent you really dont care and no-one ever gave a shit.

So its proper Rave back to a field style :D

Lechlade was fucking ace. I think I played kicks like a mule about 30 times that night. . . every time the coppers came sniffing round :)
