Should we change the sports forum?

Should we have a separate football forum?

  • Yes! But make it "football+ **** " and then a general sports forum

my opinion is that fora with more than 1 week's posts still on the front page don't need subdividing.

Well, the sports forum's front page only covers two days, starting at Friday (afternoon).

I'd love it if it was split- there's been threads I've wanted to put up in here but haven't as I've thought this has been a predominantly footie forum and they'd sink without trace...

My first ever postings on Urban were on the dedicated football forum which shortly after became the 'sports' forum. I prefered the original way.

i dont think there needs to be a change but if there was, make other sports a sub forum of the footy forum, not the other way round

That's how I'd prefer it.

But anyway, it's up to folks to vote for what they want and so far it looks like things are staying as they are.

Or just call it "Sports"...I found it quite amusing when I first came here that it said "Football."

But as there ain't you explain why Israel gets to play in European competition.

We've had this already. The Arab nations refused, due to their anti-semitism, to allow them into the Asian section.

One may as well ask why Australia is in the asian section, or indeed why Kazakhstan is in the European section. Why aren't you kicking up a fuss about those? OR indeed why is Turkey in European section when 95% of the country is in Asia...

I voted for the split, despite not posting there much because I think it would improve the usability for the posters (and lurkers) who would use either or both - in terms of both thread visibility and activity. And because it is a bit of urban history which seems fitting to preserve. :)

That's about as accurate, intelligent and well-informed as accusing the European national teams of refusing to play with Germany in the late 1930's because of their anti-aryanism. Or the whole world of refusing to play with South Africa because of their anti-Boerism.

But this is not the thread. Sorry.

Part of Kazakhstan lies west of the Urals, which makes it partially in Europe. Kazakhstan is also a member of the Council of Europe

Leave it be I reckon....

It will be mostly football but don't think it is worth splitting out the footie content.

We could make it a sub-forum so it doesn't hog any more screen space?
i think if you do decide to split it, then that is the logical answer. football the big daddy, other sports the poor relation ;)

personally i think its ok as it is, football dominates the content anyway. perhaps you could just make the football in the forum titles into capitals, just so as its clear who's in charge? :D

I vote for the status quo..... I like it i like it i like it i like it i lielielike it lielielike here we gooooo-ooooooo......

But if there are changes, can i have a rugby league forum for the greatest game known to man please? :)

So you're not losing interest with the franchise nonsense almost upon us?

It ebbs and flows really. I can understand what they're trying to do, in terms of expanding the game, but the people making the decisions often seem to view expansion in a very parochial sense, which creates all kinds of issues.

I wasn't really into the change from Broncos to Quins but with the only other choice being the Skolars (who until this season have been pants), we transferred our allegiances cos we wanted to continue watching some top class league action. This season has been very poor in terms of attendances though and i really do wonder how much longer London can maintain a top grade side, especially when so many of our northern colleagues want to see us fail.

There is talk about the possibility of a franchise being given to a team playing out of Barcelona at the moment, so you never know, I may see you at an away game yet? :D

Possibly, though I'd really want to see a team with some roots and real support rather than just a show team. Not sure which camp the Dragons fall into, and they do play a home game in Girona, as I understand it.

The history of league in Catalonia is an interesting one. Apparently, the game was suppressed by the Vichy government as they were worried about the w/c organising themselves in any fashion - they seized all the assets of the governing body and the sport has been struggling to reassert itself ever since against union. The French team has reached a couple of world cup finals since and the Cats are attracting crowds of 8-10 thousand at the moment which is very encouraging.

That'd be France though (and really, Occitania rather than Catalonia). I'm not aware of any real history of league in Spain or Catalunya. Is there any?

How many football forums does the internet need?
It seems like every month some young web entreprenuer thinks he is going to the next big thing with his football forum idea.

The CCFC website frequently gets spammed with people saying coming to my new football discussion site, it will be brill. I invarribly tell them that I'm sticking to the CCFC site as most other sites I've been to are invarribly racist. Wales bashing is fine where as England bashing gets jumped on in seconds (BBC's 606 being one of the worst for this).
