Bollocks to their cuteness or their place in the ecological system - they're not necessary in any meaningful sense. But I suppose I'd feel sad if they disappeared, because pandaness would have disappeared from the world*, which isn't a necessary thing but is part of life's rick tapestry 'n'all that.
