If someone does wrong, many times the consequences of their wrongdoing are the punishment.
Other times, learning uncomfortable facts about oneself often prevents further misdemeanours.
In my experience, the only thing punishment has done for me is to create an unconscious fear, and has often thwarted my sense of adventure or curiosity.
Theres nothing wrong with talking to the mis-doer to let them know the consequences, or to give them food for thought on their actions.
Punishment, to me, defeats the whole object of itself, as it stops learning, and learning is the whole aim of making people aware enough so they dont feel the need to behave negatively. Reward or acknowledge the good, and ignore the bad.
