Should London's Zonal system be scrapped?

You can. You just didn't look very hard, or weren't willing to compromise very much at the time. There are all sorts of property available in Brixton and Stockwell from 60pw and upwards, with a huge variety of accommodation.

So there are only two places in the whole world it is possible for you to live: where you grew up and zone 6?

No, but you are missing my point.

I can only afford to live in Zone 6 and then, despite being destitute, I am hit with huge fares, while those who now can afford to live in the inner zones get cheaper fares.

what do you pay now??? 30 quid a week or something??

I'll see your Tower Hamlets, Brixton, Hackney and Newham, and I'll raise you Southall, Dagenham, Walthamstow and Wembley.

(not quite sure why I'm getting involved in this 'fight' mind you :D)

Yep. There are poor people in outer London too. What I was disputing is PO apparently saying that the majority of people in zones 1-3 are rich.

PO, do you own or rent?

FFS, go easy on the guy. What has he done?

Why do I get the feeling some off board stuff is being carried on here :hmm:

The only thing I think anyone is getting pissed off about is the assumption that everyone who lives any closer to central London than PO is rolling in cash

Nothing off board afaik

Nah, I don;t hold any grudges against PO at all. We've had some banter over the years, usually on subjects as fascinating as Subway sandwiches and Tesco ready made mash.

Come to think of it, that ready made mash marks him as a yuppie spendthrift.
;)

Fair enough, it was just that a series of long standing posters were making pretty hostile posts towards you, which seemed way out of proportion to a perfectly reasonable thread.

Fuck 'em. :)

You can't take this internet thing too seriously.

It's only supposed to be a bit of fun after all. My life isn't that empty enough to care. :)

If you are going to keep saying this back it up or stop whining.

What do you want? Excel graphs or a complete breakdown of my earnings and spending?

It was just a general topic to start a convertsation off on a message board.

I just thought this topic and wondered what others would think in a light-hearted debate.

I didn't realise I would have to back it up with data and spreadsheets.

Well, I bet there are poorer people than you living in Stockwell.

If that is true, your argument is pointless no?

I'd be interested in know broadly what you take-home cuz I bet I can beat you for poorness and living in Zone 2.

You don't. You also have the option to stop whining.

You have to get out of this trap of thinking you only ever have one option in life - to live in zone 6 and whine.

anyway I don't think the zone sysem should be scrapped. when I was buying someone suggested I move out of the zone system altogether to find a cheaper property but I pointed out to her that living further out might knock 5 or 10k off my mortgage but travel would be 2 or 3k a year instead of £1k per year every year. Also my mortgage repayments might go down but travel costs would only ever go up. False economy.

So I bought in zone 2 and don't want to subsidise people who chose to live further out then realised they made a mistake.

Is your housing subsidised?

If through council or friends?

I will PM what I earn if you PM me.

Not subsidised no - I wouldn't have bothered getting into this if it was, would I?

It's ex-Local Authority stock and I rent it through a private landlord.

PM on way.
