That would kill me.
I went out every weekend - but I'm more of a squat party kinda gal than expensive bars and that. Depends what you're into.

I'm a lady.

Maybe if you weren't working all the time you wouldn't feel the need to go out every weekend??

I've often wondered if people who party hard at weekends are doing it to get them through the week or because they genuinely enjoy it, especially when you saw the moaning comedown threads on here(not so noticeable now)

I love it - it's part of my life - friends put on parties and play good records and I dance to them and chat to my mates. Why would I want to stay in and avoid that?
I do think it's nice to stay in and watch videos or something, but I generally prefer to do that in the week.

I don't understand why being on the dole is so attractive to some people. Fine if it pays well, but it doesn't and it's almost a full time job doing the paper work. You might as well do paperwork in an office and get paid much more.
I don't get it either, without work your social group is very narrow as the majority of people work so you're stuck with other unemployed during the day and you don't have much money to go out in the evening when your working mates are around.

However, I'm one of those strange people who likes their job and gets on with their colleagues.

Innit, I've had soem jobs I've hated, and some that have just been okay but I love the one I do now.

Me too.
I have had jobs where dole would probably have been a better option, but luckily those days are over (well hopefully)

This thread has made me cross....honestly brainaddict, I wish I had the luxury of turning work down on the grounds you gave....how the other half live

Ah, begrudging other people the luxury of living on £50 a week :D Why shouldn't he make the most of his comparative freedom while he's young, childless, mortgage free? There are many better targets for your anger.

Running water and electricity is the reserve of the priviledged too. Unless brainaddict made his fortune exploiting workers then I'm not going to get too worked up, and certainly not view him as 'the other half'.

I don't have a mortgage I'm in social housing. I just can't afford to turn work down, although I did leave a temp job last week because I couldn't collude with what was happening there. I'm utterly skint :(

Not always. I know of plently of people who manage to save on low incomes. Some people just have better budgeting skills.
I managed to save enough to go and live in Italy for a few months whilst working at Pizza Hut on less than £3 an hour. Admittedly, I was working very, long days and rarely went out but I still managed it. It did take me awhile.

I appreciate not everyone has the same opportunities but to suggest only the well off can save is inaccurate IMHO.

What does that have to do with brainaddict though? It's not his fault you're skint.

he said he didn't have any savings left. He doesn't have dependent etc so I don't see why he can't choose what work he wants to do.

The hoighty toighty have a different idea of savings though don't they. "I'm brassic" to them means either Aunt Edna hasn't conviniently died yet, or Papa hasn't wired through the £5k allowance he promised.

Straight.

Firstly, I'm currently enjoying the 'luxury' of a medical trial (which means I'm actually signed off for the moment) which will deliver some money in a few weeks. It didn't seem particularly relevant to the thread.

Secondly, our society and screwed up economics demands that most people work far more than is necessary or decent for a comfortable life - is that a good reason to feel resentful towards people who manage to find a different path?
