Anyway have fun!

I was going to research the journey this week but you've saved me the bother, cheers. Cherry Tree has half decent beer?
And I'm free the evening of the 12th. the Tractor Boys you say? Interesting.

Nae bother. The beer at the CTs was always pretty average - in common with most of the pubs around Selhurst I'm afraid. I usually end up drinking Kronenburg or whatever the "premium" lager is - but they're all a bit cack really. Having said that the Cherry Trees has new management as of about 6 months ago - I've only been down to Selhurst 3 times this season so I can't really judge but the pub seemed to have taken a turn for the better.

Definitely up for the Ipswich game if you want to meet up.

Co-op, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship..

Right, Coops swung me round.
Palace are meeting Bristol at home on the 19th and I intend to go.
Incognito, natch.
Thanks for the input everyone, particularly coop.
:)
Palace taking up rugger are they?

'Liverpool are playing Manchester next week'
'QPR are home to Sheffield tomorrow'

Wouldn't say it in those cases so please try not to say it in our city's case. It's quite an important distinction you see :)

More the merrier.

:D Absolutely.

Hey! At last I am living up to the great Palace 70's campaign "Bring a Pal to Palace" - it featured very heavily in the programme on my first ever visit to Selhurst Park (1978, vs Southend since you ask; League Cup, first round, first leg, massive, massive game as you can imagine).

Imagine our excitement to find out that just weeks earlier Palace's No1 celebrity fan of the day, Ronnie Corbett, had brought his "pal" Ronnie Barker. And Roger de Courcey brought his "pal" NOOKIE BEAR   --- you could almost taste the stardust in the air, it were that glamorous...

You can see how I was seduced away from the humble Bees by this heady brew of wealth, fame and talent.

dear god man its not that big of a deal. Imagine all us poor bastards when someone says liverpool play united on sunday.

The fans of leeds united, west ham united, sheffield united and everyone else don't get thier panties in a twist!

it fucking is you clown, you're not the ones being confused with your local rivals.

leeds would have been a local rival to man united.(not THE rivals granted)

and anway your not being confused paticularly are you. Your not in the same divison so everyone will know which one is which. (Unless its a cup game.) Your name is just getting shortend.

Yeah support Fulham but it is quite an agonising thing to do though :(

Oh yes, it has taken its toll on me I reckon. And given me a certain jaundiced outlook on the world.

1975 was a particularly galling year. Note to goalkeepers - when playing in the FA Cup Final, don't let a goal in through your legs, as millions will see...

You can't support 2 premier league teams . You need to pick a team from League 1 as the highest possible league you should pick from to prevent any relegation/promotion scenarios resulting in both your teams being in the same league ( obviously if you were to support leeds and Derby then it's likely they will be playing each other next season so that would be a bad choice ) .

I have a friend who supports both everton and sheff weds. When they were in the prem he said he simply never found out the score when they played each other.

I was thinking of supporting Fulham as a kind of second string thing. There's some nice pubs near Craven Cottage, and I don't reckon it would bve over pricey.

Thoughts?
I could live in London till I'm 125 years old, but could only support the mighty Cardiff City.

If you want to see some live footy, support your local boys not a bunch of Fulham toffs - come down to Dulwich Hamlet. We'll be going there again soon!

The ticket for Palace vs Bristol City arrived today, along with a leaflet suggesting I pay £550 for a seat in a Marquee to anoint the leading Palace player of the year. More usefully, there's another one with some instructions on how to get to the ground. Their computer must have sussed me as a newbie. I am strangely excited by all this. I am going to see football at a club which is not my own.

So how was the Palace experience? Always good to beat the team in second.

Plus I heard there was a bit of trouble! Luckily Palace are good at running away so it didn't turn too heavy....:o

I had a great time; way better than I had expected. Thought the footie was - as you predicted - not as tactical as in the Premiership, but you couldn't fault the energy and commitment of the players.

Palace have clearly been energised by Neil Warnock. Clint Morrison ranged alll over the place looking dangerous, and Bristol City basically resorted to playing Showunmi on his own up front - the Palace goalkeeper Speroni was tested but had a great game.

Palace got a lucky goal early on in the first half, but piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded with a beautiful one headed in - not surprised the BCFC were upset although I didn't see the trouble, so it must really have been handbags.

I snapped away with my phone and the results are here.

Footie aside I liked the family atmosphere and I get the impression the club is really going somewhere. I'd tip them for a play off place and yes, I'll be back.

Hoorah! The more optimistic amongst the Palace massive are predicting a top two finish (which - rationally - I can buy, it's a mediocre division and BCFC were second and it sounds like Palace beat them fairly comfortably) but I remain convinced that it is Palace's destiny to play at the new Wemberlee stadium, this is pure non-logic but I 'ad the same feeling hin me waaater about going to the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, and we did that. Maybe to beat Cardiff this time ;)

Now if the bug has bitten - the 12th Feb Ipswich game is definitely a runner, I have a couple of friends going now (one a tractor boy no less) so you're very welcome to meet up. And if you're really bitten, they're on the telly away at Leicester on Monday 28th Jan...

Every Millwall fan I have ever met has been a thoroughly decent and likeable person.

I don't like stereotyping football fans and I've defended them here before but there are a fair share of insular arseholes that support them. Not hooligans necessarily, but definitely arseholes.

You pulled me up on this once.

I'll say Bristol for Rovers and City. I do the same for Sheffield except when they're in the same div.

I don't think it's confusion. If you say you're going to Bristol v Forest, it's bleeding obvious which Bristol club you support.

well it's fucking annoying and any supporter of either team will tell you so

good luck to Queens Park this season :)

If you want a football team that's close to the Tube, then Fulham could be your best bet.

Walking to/from Putney Bridge station through/around Bishop's Park is fucking lovely.

And if/when you get bored with the match, you could always take a stroll along the Thames or around Fulham Palace.
