Should I join MySpace?

It looks a bit sad to me, but all my mates are joining in and I don't like to be left out.
I don't have a product to push, I'm not very photogenic, I don't have much to say about myself or anything and I'm not a 14 year old girl desperate to pretend to be friends with 9000 people.
It's as sad as you want it to be. Don't make friends with the teenage girls who take photos of themselves (pretending they don't know they are aware of it despite the fact their arms are in the pic taking it). I have found a load of cool unsigned bands from all over the world which I regularly burn on to CD comps, loads of stuff I would never have found out about.

Do with it as you will, I was a sceptic but I have found it quite useful, it's easy to ignore dumb teen blogs.

I have 1002 friends. George W Bush himself requested to be my friend the other day. I turned him down.

It's rubbish - don't bother. Unless you need to be on myspace to listen to the bands. Then join. It's great for music.

Salright though cos I have no 'friends', so I can cyberstalk folks with impunity. Someone called Tom thinks he's my friend but I deleted him.

Well, don't have a profile then and just snigger at others.

Ah well, you should check out the other myspace thread then to say hi to some U75 peeps.:p

I like it for my work, it lets me chat to other embalmers and funeral directors.
I like it for music, I also keep in touch with distant friends as its just as quick as email...

I'll try anything to help keep me young and down with the kids :o

I thought it was for video-makers, models, artists, club-promoters, djs, 'personalities', fans of all the above, a quasi-dating site - or simply for people who want a free blog space?

MySpace should be for music only:mad:

But we've disabled downloads - sorry Suplex :o

Don't worry I don't think it's going to give me sleepless nights.

But why disable downloads? do you think some one is going to make an amazing underground trade flogging your MP3s? Do you think you are going to lose out on that big record deal because everyone already has your MP3s?

I have become a fan of some myspace bands because I have been constantly listening to them on a walkman. The bands I can't burn don't get much of my ear time (if any at all) because I don't listen to fucking myspace all day.

PS. Why should it just be for music? I'm sure not all your friends are in bands.

I'm on myspace, a good portion of my real-life mates are on myspace, so it's a handy way to get the word out of something important happening. We also leave comments to each other in a sort of open-letter e-mail system. It's a laugh.

The thing that pisses me off about myspace is the way bands are now relying on it far too much. Your average young band's flyer now reads "BANDNAME Playing at Venue on Date. For more information see www.myspace.com/BANDNAME", assuming that everybody and their dog has got the internet.

I had no idea you were an ostrich farmer. Isn't that kind of activity a bit difficult in central Brixton? Wouldn't they all escape and congregate outside the KFC?

Errr . . . I spose we disabled downloads because we're selling the EP with those tracks on. We have older studio versions of the same tracks available on our actual website. It's a technicality about which recorded tracks we feel were done well enough I suppose. It's not that I feel it's wrong having "normal" people on myspace, but I think that there should be a seperate, dedicated site for bands only then. www.myband.com ? :p

orang, you do know that they now claim the copyright on everything you upload there?
(they also deny you to take your pictures down, if you'd want that!)

...please, escape before it's too late!
that murdoch is a right ****.

Upload?
I don't want a theme tune on my page - that's just annoying for other users.

The minefield I'm currently making my way through is who to 'accept' as a 'friend'.
At first, I was only going to accept real mates, but then I felt bad after denying someone, so then I decided to only accept mates AND people on messageboards who I get on with.
But now I feel bad about denying people on messageboards who I don't get on with, but don't dislike, and suddenly I'm tearing apart the multitude of minutae that exist that differentiate friends from aquaintances and now I feel like I'm at school again.

Bollox innit?

aye but bands have been putting their website address on flyers for years now...myspace is more easily accessible than most band websites esp[ecially those stupid flash ones that take ages to navigate

that's one of the reasons why msyapce is so popular - the pages are just better laid out than sites built by bands' mates who are trying to get a cv together
