Should I buy a ukulele?

Yes.

get it from the ukelele shop (Duke of Uke) between Brick Lane and Liverpool St tube.

My mate runs the place, Big Beardie guy.

Also they're having a free gig and party there tonight which would be well worth going to - 'THE EUROPEAN' is playing who is fucking BRILLIANT. :)

the intervals are the same as the four highest (in pitch) strings on a guitar, it's in a different key though. and the 4th string is an octave higher than it would be if you tuned like a guitar. but in effect all the chord shapes are the same.

oh I see! I may have to dust it off when I get home. :)

well, it's hard to scrunch my fingers together but with a bit of practice - I should be playing chords without gaps soon. ( As a guitar player its slightly easier to learn!)
Cool... is it pretty much like a little guitar then? :)

My ex bought me a mandolin. It's bloody hard on the fingers though, and twice as much bloody tuning. Ah for a ukelele... That would be so easy hahaha

I borrowed my friends mandolin for a bit the other week, it is a bit hard going isn't it. Lovely sound though, definitely worth the perseverance.

Oh well worth persevering. Your fingers will toughen up, and I recommend getting an electronic tuner for the tuning up issue. I have a good ear and I can't really do it without one.

Yep, if you haven't got perfect pitch (i.e. vast majority of people) your going to need a either an instrument you know is already in tune or an electronic tuner to tune any insturment decently.

I've being playing muysic since I was a small boy in short trousers, but I can only hear if an instrument is in the right ball park (assuming that all the relative tuning between strings, valves etc is spot on).

I dusted off the ukulele over the weekend and have now learnt one song!

I'm going to make it my goal over the summer to become a master of the ukulele.

My ukulele won't stay in tune.

I've learned auld lang syne and postcards from italy though. I might go busking tomorrow :D
