Should I buy a silly car? Audi A8 W12!

It's got a W12 engine in it and you're asking us if you should buy it?

Fuck the fuel consumption, fuck the cost and fuck the environment.

It's got a W12 engine.

BUY IT!!!!!

Meh - false alarm.

I slept on it and thought hard about the "true cost of ownership" here and then put my sensible hat on and decided against it.

:(

Looks like it will be a sensible Japanese 4x4 after all.

As you were Urban.

Nooo :(

I need you to buy an extravagant car so I can live vicariously through you. I am considering options for my next car. Boot space for carrying pushchairs and the ton of stuff the foal needs is a primary consideration. Engine size and sexiness doesn't come into it :(

I am going to see the garage and test drive on Saturday morning.

:D

I think I will probably rule out the W12 in favour of the S8 as:

A) Running costs start to get a little silly
B) The S8 has better suspension and tiptronic gears as well.

Watch this space!

If I fall at the final hurdle, then I think it will be a 2006 one of these:

Instead.

I once owned a big Audi. It was the most boring and disappointing car I have ever driven. Boring as fuck and horrific depreciation.

Really?

What was it?

Hmm - not sure that will be too much of a problem it being the age it is........

Long time ago. Things may have improved. 200 Turbo Quattro. Not that big in terms of engine size. It was Audi's biggest in it's day mind. But shyte IMO.

Well I guess we shall see when I take it for a drive!

Don't like Audis since the original quattro, although the new S5 looks quite tasty. IME they're rather inert and uninvolving.

Between those two I'd have the S8, it'll handle better.

A former boss of mine had an S6 Avant followed by a 2.7TT quattro A6 Avant, he reckoned the latter was a better car and blisteringly quick around a track.

At 14 grand I'd buy it and damn the consequences. Even if the fuel bill did threaten to bankrupt you, you could probably sell it over here and double your money. :D

i doubt the price of petrol is much of an issue in the middle east.

Nope!

A shade under a tenner to fill my 60 litre tank.

Anyway!

Drove the Audi.....it was....."nice" but I wasn't blown away. As others have said, though quick, it was curiously uninvolving and distant and the interior, whilst full of toys and well made was a little dull and grandpa-ish

Anyway - it was a nice pipedream but I don't think I enjoyed it enough to be worth the gamble on it.

So..........

I have gone in a completely different direction and bought a silver 2006 Nissan Murano with 22000Km on the clock and 2 years worth of dealers warranty left for the same money as the older Audi!

Gives me toys and comfort and the ability to head out to Hatta and Oman on the off-road trails.

Pick it up tomorrow.
