Should footy chants be cleaned up?

Another example. Nathan Blake used to get "he's black, he's mean, he robs ya fruit machine" Is that racist?

No, but it was pretty stupid of our own fans to sing it at him, couldn't have helped his game much.

Phil Stant used to get: "he's white, he's mean, he fights the Argentine" iirc.

I can't see why that comes into it in this case. Are you saying working class people wouldn't get offended by a racist or homophobic chant?

What I'm trying to say, all be it not very well is that in previous decades when football support was made up of a different demographic attitudes to a number of things were different. I'm not saying it was right or wrong or speaking for the working classes just questioning this debate and the validity of it in pre family orientated premiership/sky/corporate football.

Ah, i see what you mean :)

So United are thinking of putting in a similar system to spurs - where you can text a number if someone's offending you and security will remove that person. Fucking jesus. Imagine having one of those in 'real life'. Now that'd be handy.

Ridiculous:
Amazon withdraws Man U CD

Amazon have withdrawn a Manchester United CD from sale on its website because of offensive chants.

The CD contains supporters' chants aimed at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger which are abusive.

A statement from Amazon.co.uk explained that Arsenal had complained about the nature of the chants.

It said: "Arsenal Football Club has provided us with formal notice that content within the album 'Manchester United Chants' is defamatory in nature and we have, therefore, removed this title from our website.

"We would not remove a product from our site because some, or many, people find it to be distasteful or otherwise objectionable.

"We believe it is censorship to make a product unavailable for those reasons."

Wenger was sent off during Arsenal's recent 2-1 defeat against Manchester United after he kicked over a water bottle following a disallowed Gunner's goal.

The reason why I don't think the Wenger chant is that big a deal is because no one actually thinks he's a paedo and it's just a childish play on his transfer policy/glasses he wore in the early days. Please tell me what is bigoted about reasoning?

No it's not.

More ridiculous is the thought that somewhere out there people are walking the streets having bought this sort of stuff.

Seriously, this is a bad bad thing. This sort of behaviour puts Darwin's observations in question.

Worst one I've heard is "I'd rather be a paki than a hun", wrong on so many levels.

Cheal$ki sing a variation to Spurs, swapping "hun" for "Jew" along with "gas chamber" hissing when the teams come out, they're a nice bunch, even if they did used to support ManUre

that's naivie. just because you dont class it as a family environment( ) does not mean that people should be allowed to be overtly racist / homophobe. i dont want to hear that shit, regardless of whether or not i want my family to either.

in my book if you are happy to hear it means you're happy to sing it. are you?

I wasn't being entirely serious. Although I don't think I've witnessed anything at football that has actually offended, and I've only really seen attempts to offend as humourous.
