Yes. Islamic law ( Sharia ) is essentially 12th century texts frozen in time. They are nothing worse ( or better ) then what Papal edicts of that time - Differance is the Sharia is taken as absolute and still carry the weight amongst the orthodoxy ( which is the majority ) and apply in most moslem countries bar Turkey where Kemal binned them when he secularized Turkey.
For some peculair reason Islamic jurists in 12th century declared the 'door shut' to Ijtihad - A device by which Islamic law could be updated. Since attempts have been made by reformers but that movement has now almost died out, it was strong in early 20th century but now Wahabism is gaining the upper hand - Helped by Saudi petro-dollars and Western interventions in the moslem countries by supporting degenerate governments.

it is not only religious law that has included grave punishments for thieving/homosexuality/adultery etc.
dont forget the relative youth of judaism/christianity/islam. human society, mainly patriarchal, has over time in its many forms included various injustices sanctified by law. surely religion is simply an elaborate weaving of what a group of people ultimately think should be law. a code for life. awful laws and acts such as torture are not the preserve of religion, but the preserve of man, surely.
