Capello will give Beckham his 100th cap, he'd be thrown out of the job if he didn't, get a fucking grip.

However Capello has been all around the fucking country (I'm in Scotland and even I've seen it,) watching players left, right and centre.

His first priority is having a shot with the team. As it would be, it's his toy now and let's see what he can do with it. Beckham will get his later and most likely it will be the last time he ever plays 'proper' football.

Prima Nocte or whatever they called it in Braveheart. Capello carries the English team up to his mansion to have his wicked way with it...that's probably going too far.

The big issue for me is Heskley - I cant believe hes playing Heskey.

Okay, its only Switzerland, but Heskey is a rugby player not a striker. Hes forceful in the box, but whatever you do dont pass to him unless you want him to kick it out of the stadium.

Id rather play Beckham than Heskey.

As an Italian, Fabio is not going to do the obvious and allow opposing teams to the insight of what tactics most suit his collection of players. I doubt very much if all of the selected players will take part. Some will be just to confuse the opposition.

As manager he wants to find out how the payers respond, the cohesion and level of fitness, etc not just throw a bunch of players onto the pitch and hope, because they are premiership players, they can play together....

He is an experienced manager, used to playing with quality players, so playing with the England squad, is a bit of a comedown... LOL

Just got to wait and see and it should be fun.

IMO the best solution to this is to arrange for an England friendly and have it as Beckham's testimonial. I do think he deserves a good send off cos he's been one of the few England players over the last few years to have given his all for his country. There just doesn't seem to be many players left like him any more and some people can't seem to look past his celebrety status and realise just what an effort he did put into playing for England. Organise a full England friendly match against one of the best teams in the world (or a World XI if that can count as a full international match) and give Beckham what he deserves

I'd play him, he's been a good lad for England, worked hard many times and helped us out of a few tight spots. Give him his 100th cap you miserable gits

Wouldn't play him. He hasn't been playing competive football for a good couple of months, seems silly to even think about picking a player like that ahead of players who've been playing week in week out, regardless of who is and the significance of him playing.

I don't think there's any doubt that he'll still get his 100th cap under Capello, but the guy has to pick him on the basis of his current form, not past history.

At first I thought - why on earth can't Cappello just let him play, even if he's going to hobble onto the pitch?

Then after a while it seemed like a good move - it sends out a strong signal that he means business, that it's results that count, no favouritism, everyone's going to have to work for the place, etc.

And you know what? If Beckham is 'stranded' on 99?

He'll live!!! :p

Dammit you've already got my best argument there. When people go on about how shit Beckham is because he's one footed can't head etc (yes, a winger that can't head, fuck me), I just point out all the flaws in Joe Cole's game. I think Beckham should be in the squad, ahead of Jenas maybe Downing. Not really fair to play him ahead of Bentley though.
I think I'm coming to the opinion that you can only play one of Rooney, Gerrard and Cole, simply because all three of them want to utilise the space between the opposition's defence and midfield. To play them all crowds that area and takes the "ghost" effect away. I think Rooney would be my choice, simply because I feel his effectiveness for England post-2004 has been held back by a midfield four of Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard and Cole. Instead I'd probably go for two deep-lyers in the centre (Hargreaves and Carrick probably) with two proper wingers to pin back the full backs and support the centre forward. 4-2-1-3 if you will, with Rooney as the 1.
