Shopping - what doesn't Brixton have?

Where's a good place to buy household cleaning products like kitchen / bathroom cleaner etc? Would hate to have to go to Tesco, the selection in Sainsbury's is tiny and Boots don't do such things.

I agree with BH except to say that the clothes shops for men in Brixton really are very poor. Either laughable quality (the Baron), way overpriced (Traid) or plain gimpy (Morley's).

A place to get decent wine would be good so I didn't have to go to M&S or Tesco.

Apart from that, I don't think we want for anything here. I can't think of anywhere that compares for the range and quality of stuff we have on our doorstep.

THE BARON IS A GREAT SHOP FOR MEN AT VERY GOOD PRICES AND ALLWAYS VERY HELPFULL. NOT EVERY BODY WANTS TO GO TO GAP!

I miss no longer having a head shop in Brixton. :(

BTW anyone know the legalities on setting up a "plant-food" shop ? :hmm:

Sorry if this has been said already. But I'd lke a nice pet shop. There is nowhere to buy pet stuff in Brixton. Used to be one in the arcade. But long gone now.

Neither are in central Brix, but a shortish busride north or south:

Pets Pantry further north up Brixton Road towards Oval (just before Polish delicatessen Malinka / Adulis restaurant etc) is cheapish but not very well stocked - they have a variety of stuff but not brilliant quality.

Dr Doolittles, down Streatham Hill (shudder) - it's just before the rail station, if you're going southward - is a much much classier proposition with every possible kind of elaborate vet-approved diet, and a bigger selection of toys for cats/dogs. pricey to match, tho.

Agree with your review of those pet shops but there is also brockwell vets. they sell a good range of food and they deliver it too i think. sell some good toys too.

There's also two in Camberwell - a short ride on the 45 bus away, one's right next to Iceland and one's just before it.

Eh?

back in the old day we had a dolcis, a lilly and skinners, a C&A, an Our Price which became virgin, an independent bookshop, jackets - baked potatoe place, a 711, a BHS and a thriving second hand market...

My first 'saturday' job was picking tatties in the cold and mud from 9* years old! You lot don't know you're born.

*More probably 10.
