Shopping - what doesn't Brixton have?

It's not quite Brixton, but the Old Post Office Bakery on Landor Rd is only a short walk away.

Yeah, I know, but like gaijingirl I also find their bread rather heavy. I prefer the stuff in the supermarket to be honest.

The portuguese deli sometimes has Ok bread actually but there's not much choice.

The bread in Wild Caper (deli owned by the owner of Franca Manca) is about the best sourdough I've had. Only open market hours though.

Tarannau - I agree about Moen's downside but it still pisses over any Brixton outlet as far as quality is concerned.

A&C (Portuguese deli) is pretty much always open till 8pm.

Bread is supposed to be heavy!

There are degrees of heaviness. I make my own bread every couple of days (albeit with a bread machine) because I don't like the Chorleywood squidgyness of supermarket bread. On the other hand, I find that some of the Old Post Office bread is somewhat bricklike. In any case, it's all a matter of personal taste isn't it.

at Chick King? yup had it a few times. Chips are buff ting when fresh. Ribs are rank. Fish is rank.

oh well - I don't eat fish so wouldn't know. I have had their chips and they're nice. I like chips made from cut up spuds rather than "fries" But my OH and a few other people around here like their fish. Just asked OH and he said.. "It's not an award winning shop, but for somewhere that's actually a chicken shack, their fish is quite decent".

young professional bar

I need to buy a memory stick today, anyone got an idea? bigger the better
Do mean a bar for what used to be called yuppies? Why would you want that?

Try Curry's for the memory stick.

cos Brixton doesnt have one imo. by YP, I mean a bar thats full of people under 30. I hate going to Clapham.

Try around the docklands, lots of "young professional" bars there - mainly full of annoying wankers with shiny phones, but I guess if that's your thing...

nah its not.

to me, Brixton bars are great for daytime drinking, and aside from Plan B, there is little for the late crowd. Dex and Mass are niche.

Hive is the best we have imo..but its too small !! Its like partying in a living room!

thanks captain obvious

wasnt the point of the thread that we have all this little independents that can sell everything?

Eh? There are shitloads of places open to 2 and well beyond, from traditional bars and music pubs, late night cafes and restaurants through sweaty techno shoeboxes and railway arches. It's hardly an area badly served.

You've got some hefty name djs and aftershows at Dex, Mass and Jamm, yet somehow they're more niche than style bars like Hive?
