I take my shoes off (and generally ask if people mind me doing this within 5 minutes at complete strangers' houses). If i'm wearing socks or tights i walk round in them, if i'm not (mostly in summer) i walk round in bare feet.

I would want to keep my shoes on if there was a noticeable cat or dog presence in the house though. Although, if there was a dog i'd want to stay outside the house altogether, so...

I've nothing against slippers - i have a couple of lovely pairs - but i never get into the habit of putting them on. And they do tend to stop your toes wiggling somewhat. which is a bit stressful.

It seems that cats and dogs influence our internal footwear choices, I wonder if in countries where they don't have pets there isn't such a confusion about what's acceptable.

Here in New Zealand EVERYONE takes their shoes off before entering your house! In fact we raised a few eyebrows when we first got here and didn't do it - we had to be gently asked! ha ha ha... it's so sweet though, even the little kids will stop their mad rush through the front door to take their shoes off.... (those that are wearing them in the first place).

I think it's nice - sort of respectfull... i used to feel a bit of a dick in england when we had a new carpet put in to sell our house and i asked people to take their shoes off.... here you wouldn't have that fear, plus your floors stay cleaner!

:)

All of them at different times.

After I've had a cleaning spree, I try and take my shoes off in the flat and don my old slippers, but I'm not that fastidious about it. My carpets are 'orrible and old anyway. In the mornings, I just slob around in bare feet or socks.

Will the negligees have feathery bits?? They gotta have them so they match your mules :D
I bought one from a charity shop in Lewes on the way to Lost Vagueness in the summer. It's made of Cashmere and lined with silk and trimmed with marabu (sp) feathers  :)
I shall have to buy some very glam mules to match :D

On particularly cold days I wear socks but other than that I let my tootsies free as nature intended.

First thing i do when i get home is renmove shoes...white carpet and shagpile buggered now after years off misuse and spilt wine/ashtrays but do warm to guests when they take their shoes off-Not so much as a tidy thing but a chilling out comfortable/polite thing

Most of our place is unheated so it's got to be thick socks or slippers in the cold weather but as soon as it's warm enough to go bare I do.

Free the Feet!!

Slippers in winter and flip-flops for the rest of the year.
I used to be barefoot at home till I got my dogs, but got fed up treading on crumbs and bits of broken bones/chews that they leave all over the place.
