Shoe-throwing journalist reported hurt (Bush incident)

even the lesser 'insulting the president' charge could get him between 7-10 years. An extreme cost to pay for a small humanitarian protest at the horror that gone on under Bush. I can only hope his name is remembered long after Bush is forgotton.

2 years for insulting the President I think it was...

Thank fuck we bought em freedom of expression eh.

If the Iraqis continue to demonstrate in their thousands for this guy, they'll have to let him go. The effect of the shoe-throw is more politicaly powerful it seems than a bullet would have been.

As much as I enjoy the video :D, I think its a double standard to expect that he wouldn't get any jail time.

If you threw shoes at the queen and narrowly missed her you'd be going downtown too. (You'd probably have a good chance of hitting her, unless she's got some mad skills I'm unaware of.)

If you did similar in a bar, you'd go to jail on simple assault charges (at least here you would, our cops have no sense of humor about that sort of thing.)

Nah you wouldn't (not in the UK anyway)!!!! Especially if you missed! You might get some community service IF you were very very unlucky.

It's only because he threw the shoe at Bush that he's been arrested, if he'd done that to an ordinary person the he'd get a night on the cells... If that.

You'd get more than that here, but it wouldn't be 7-10 years. You might get 30-90 days and 200 hrs of community service. It would be more for a someone classed as a public servant ... cops, etc.

I heard you get ten years in America if you're caught smoking a spliff, and they electrocute you if you make a rude sighn at a cop, and hehead you if you admit to being an athiest in public.

Just that kinda place I guess.:(

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. :)

Hundreds of thousands (over a million definately) are dead thanks to Bush, that was kind of the throwers point.

Yeah. My point was that the dig about bringing freedom there, isn't taking into account how little there was before.... along with lots of killings as well.

apparently al-Zaidi has apologised

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7790318.stm

Yasin Majeed said Mr Maliki had received a contrite letter from the journalist.

"Zaidi said in his letter that his big ugly act cannot be excused," Mr Majeed said.

then again maybe not
However, according to Reuters news agency, one of Mr Zaidi's brothers expressed scepticism over the merits of the letter.

"This information is absolutely not true. This is a lie. Muntader is my brother and I know him very well. He does not apologise," Udai al-Zaidi said.
