Shine - 90's Indie Compilations!!

I would say in my defense that I was quite young at the time, and

the first echobelly album is pretty good though. it all goes a bit pete after that though.

i quite like sleeper too. and the first mansun album is great.

after checking the tracklist for the first one i'm quite happily humming 'feel the pain'. and disliking pulp is quite frankly the work of a madman.

the rest of it is pretty much toilet.

i mean, cast. really. what was the point of cast? why would anyone bother?

"insomniac" by echobelly was good and "wide open space" by mansun was very good. nothing by sleeper was good though.

i had managed to eradicate cast from my brain until this afternoon :(

the 90s. tracksuit tops and flared cords and floppy hair. amongst other things.

even shed seven have more good songs than the boo radleys, milesy.

they were so fucking cheerful. i mean, suede, now they had plenty of shit moments but basically made two decent records. gene had listened to enough smiths that they didn't make you want to smash the stereo, but the boo radleys? urk.

oh you man of petty ignorance...

GIANT STEPS !

and those shine compilations were crap

fucker...i was going to raise the stakes with The Bluetones but Cast take the fucking the puke cup

indeed The Automatic, Klaxons etc do shit on the 90s brigade from a reasonable height

I mean the OP.... it has a distinct wiff of 'corr all the bands when I were young are much better than the bands now' post-youth nostalgia...

the second rung of brit-pop bands (gene, shed seven, etc) in the mid 90s were pretty average... if they were to come out now, they wouldn't get a look in. however dance music in the 90s was much better than it is now... swings and roundabouts...

I was born in '81 so I would have been about 14 in 1995. And yes all the bands when I were young were much better so ner! ;)

(ETA except northern uproar who were proper shite)

I think they were both shite, but the Bluetones were shitter... at least Cast were a pale imitation of the band that the lead singer was in before (the Las) but the bluetones made a career out of ripping off old stone roses singles....

I remember having Shine 9, I thought it was great. I was 12 at the time to be fair... but I still like it now, to be honest. The 90's produced some amazing music.

Everything had gone to pieces for the indie scene by the mid-90s.... Those Shine compilations reflect the sad state of things... I can't bring myself to type the names of some of those quasi-bands...

But the Boo Rads - Ichabod and I =

It was so much better in the late 80s - early 90s :p

the bluetones were much better than cast!! not that that's saying much.

no, as I said they were both shite, but the Bluetones 'the bootleg stone roses' sctick just annoyed me more

The Boo Radleys' problem is that everyone seems to remember them for that awful Wake Up Boo song. But Giant Steps was a pretty good album.
Yeah, they could put a decent tune together, I wouldn't put them at the same level as Shed seven at all.
