Sheridans to face perjury trial

His having Donald Findlay to be his lawyer hasn't gone unnoticed up here neither.

Tommy Sheridan is facing an extremely serious indictment. He is entitled to a fair trial and in Donald Findlay QC he will benefit from the services of one of the most effective criminal defence advocates in the land.

Defendant-Who is my QC

Court officer-Donald Findlay

Defendant-f**k that can i change my plea to guilty to save a bit of time

As much as I loathe Findlays unionist reacftionary politics I do admire his commitment to the law and the right of everyone to a good defence. A contradictory character or perhaps an intelligent bigot?

vanity imo.

i think i got the wrong end of the stick above btw, did TS choose and pay for DF or was he assigned to him ?
In general your solicitor appoints counsel. Mr Sheridan's solicitor, Aamer Anwar, engaged Mr Findlay to act for Mr Sheridan and Paul McBride QC to represent Mrs Sheridan.

righto, ta.

so who pays for this (in particular, who pays in the case that he loses)

The move comes less than a week after Tommy was evicted from Celebrity Big Brother. Before taking part, he had to change his bail address from his home in Glasgow to Elstree Studios in London.

:D

Thought so, it was on the cards months ago when various papers published a story showing how Findlay had already been approached if there was to be a trial.

Not only should they receive it but the laws should be rewritten so that newspapers cannot abuse the libel laws in the first place. And then bug people (royalty, Sheridan's car...so on) one law for the rich, obviously.

Fed...gotta say you're coming across as a bit of a bigot (unless you can clarify that). Comments like that can pretty much only be taken one way. Findlay takes the highest profile cases, end of.

Care to point out where i'm in any way a bigot? It was a Rangers supporting workmate who used the espression, it's nothing to do with bigotry, but you carry on with your accusations why don't you. As has been pointed out, if your lawyers Findlay plead guilty and save the time.

I dunno how it works to be honest.

i should imagine Donald "All together now - Sure I am an Ulster Orangeman, From Erin's Isle I came" Finlay would be happy to take on a case like Sheridan's for the publicity. I understand that's how it works in high profile cases.

One thing not to forget is the esteem he is held in in Scotland, especially by women. He was basically the poster boy for the anti-poll tax campaign and whatever folk might say about his integrity was well helpful giving advice to folk who refused to register. Like my old dear. Who would probably still protest that he was being 'stitched up' if he was caught with an axe in his hand and his wife chopped up in the bath.

you've edited the clarification out.
I've not edited anything out. Fuck yourself.

Fed knows exactly what I'm talking about and he addressed the point in his last post. I also gave him the opportunity to clarify it. So take your accusation that I'm twisting something or lying and shove it up your arse. :)

Anyway...ignore that....previouspostersmakingshitupandannoyingme yaddayadda.

Findlay is the obvious choice, really. As pointed out, he's as much a publicist as a Counsel. I don't like his (alleged, but pretty fairly alleged,) bigotry but you have to be fair....he's never let it get in the way of his job and some of his high profile cases have been defending Catholics, TS being one. To be honest his Toryism offends me more than his other flaws.

And he's not slow in taking unwinnable cases either if there are other considerations.

If he thinks that TS may lose then that will be part of the strategy as well. He's taking on a nasty one here....Murdoch probably won't appreciate Sheridan going from defending himself to getting the best legal rep in Scotland.

Looking forward to it. :)

Gotta love the class of discussion.

That's not an edit. It's a quote.

An edit is where you take a bit out in the quote or add a bit in or add it to a different non-consecutive quote. See? A quote takes a part of a post...an edit changes the content or order of the post by manipulating it.

I can't help but notice that your own contributions so far appear to be 'vanity' and 'laughable'....please share more of your fecundity.

Indeed - Mr Findlay is more than happy to take his legal aid fees to defend any old scum:

Frankly' I'm amazed that Mr. Sheridan should lower his principles to be defended by such a running dog of the Capitalist elite ( or some such drivel) - unless he wants the best chance of not rejoining his "brothers" in the Bar-L where tanning facilities are limited..................

You edited that part, ie the part that 'where to' is referring to, out of my post in your reply and attempt to smear me with bigotry. See below....

And for that work I still respect him, I agree his recent shitty behaviour deosn't make his previous good work any less worthy at all. The reference was in regard to his behaviour in regards to this issue from 2004 onwards. Remember some of this who see things differently to Tommy have also been in prison over the poll tax.

No, I neither implied bias nor pre-judged the audience, you must a mad if you think the audience could have got any wider here in Scotland during the previous trial, it was, as they say, the talk of the steamie! As will this next charade.

Attacked him? Or refused to line up like lap dogs and perjure themselves for him? As for backstabbing in an anti-socialist vehicle, exactly what he did in the Daily Record and got paid for it. As for the tape who knows what that will be seen as?! You know it's 'made up' do you? How do you know that exactly? I bow to your greater knowledge, do tell.

Up here as in Glasgow, having Findlay as your lawywer has pretty clear overtones. Either a gangster or upto your neck in it and needing help. Take your pick.

The bit in bold was in my original post that you proceeded to delete in your reply. It was pretty clear in my post that there was no bigotted reason, but you completely ignored that bit in bold.
