I always thought cottage pie was made with beef and sheppards pie with lamb.

but according to wikpedia and other websites they are both the same

either way i always make mine with beef and call it shepherds pie, as did my ma!

On an Indian tip, Country Captain is a sort Indian variation of a shepherds pie that I saw being made on Market Kitchen on UKTV Food. One of those dishes created by Indian chefs to please English tastes back in the colonial days. Haven't tried it myself, but have been wanting to as it seems a combination of two foodie treats - curry and shepherds pie...

Although in the US it seems to be something wholly different.
