Shed Seven...

I have to take issue with this as well - plenty of good stuff about at the time but not all lumped in with the spurious britpop nonsense.

we're not going to win with yer man Suplex, he only likes 4 records and one of those is by The Cookie Crew

clearly. he rates Royal Trux who, while interesting, were mostly a disaster.

I heard a story (was it from Twisted - ?) that when dealing with Royal Trux you were under NO circumstances to ever give Herrera any money at all. She'd spend it all on smack and miss the gig.

heh.

the only time I saw them they were really bad. i imagine smack was to blame too. very slow and unfocused :hmm:
I though they would be good as well. bastards.

No it wasn't me, but i did do a strange interview with her once mostly about good lawyers and firearms (the two were not connected by the way)

I actually bought an album by Shed 7 for a track it had on it called It's getting better. It just had a great intro.

Suede had some good songs as well, Sleeper and Cast never did anything for me.

Guilty admission time; I love Chasing Rainbows, one of my all time faves..

As Dot Com said.. "if it made it onto a Shine compilation is good enough for me..

What does U-75 think of the Lightning Seeds..?? From the same early to mid 90's, football's coming home, era..??

didn't the frontman have an uncanny resemblance to David Baddiel?

Liked sugar coated iceberg

They were mostly quite poor in general until Accelerator. I'm glad I didn't give up on them.

Even the mostly 'miss' RTX has some great great moments - Balls to Pass.

. . . And Mr Geoff, that's the rock steady crew (but you know that don't you). It's an awesome album and slightly rare because the rock steady crew were ripped off by their deal with virgin and never agreed to a re-release.

I have to admit that the mighty Shed were a big fave of mine for a long time, maybe because I was living in York when they were starting off and I felt a local loyalty to them, but more because they were actually really good and just wrote top tunes - it's just a shame that some of their jingle lost its jangle on the Change Giver album .

They were treated like village idiots by the London press because they were unreconstructed working class York lads but they helped raise hundreds of pounds for Anti-Fascist Action back in the early 90s with local benefit gigs and were always down to earth and approachable.

Shed Rock!

In the words of Helen Love;

"So Johnny Cigarettes and Steven Wells,
Don't get upset, your paper will still sell,
'Cos Shed 7 and Chris Evans will save the UK music scene."

God Helen Love are great.

I think that was David Baddiel..
The lead singer was Ian Broudie..

All together.. "It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming.."

The Lightning Seeds are far from Ian Broudie's best work. I much prefer the stuff he did with The Original Mirrors. Though I'm still not convinced that Big In Japan ever actually existed. I believe they are a fraud concocted by Scouse musicians to create a mythical band that never actually recorded or gigged, simply to piss off London based music writers.

I used to work for Suede's management company.

I got the job because at the interview I was the only person who when asked if they liked them replied "they're alright but i don't really like indie stuff to be honest" - turned out neither did many of the other folk who managed them :D

Chasing rainbows on youtube.
Hmmm, quite touching, a bit un-accomplished.
Verve took this sort of thing to real heights though.

Dodgy's first album is still a joy to listen to. Pastoral, poignant, beautiful melodies.

It was later on that they turned into the blueprint for Fucking Toploader.
