Shall we have another MP expenses thread then?

In the pic that accompanies the Gordon Brown cleaner article, he really looks like he's trying for a sexy, actor-like pose:

Thanks. That actually doesn't sound as bad as most of the others; even though he did live in number ten at the time in his post as chancellor, he could have easily been moved out of that post in a reshuffle, so would need a London residence then (Scotland's a bit far to commute from). It's still pretty shit that he expects the taxpayer to clean his private home for him, but it's not a straightforward fiddle like the second home swapping stuff is.
I have no problem with accommodation for people who need to be away from home for their jobs. Their are many people who are in that position. Oil rig workers come to mind. However, the rules that apply to most people don't seem to apply to MPs.

If they don't like the idea of an overnight allowance for a hotel or B&B, then I seriously think they should have MPs' accommodation, like nurses' accommodation or halls of residence. Pillow fights would be up to them, but all this pauchling and manoeuvring would be knocked on the head.

We shouldn't forget that the majority of these M.P's have voted for and then supported and cheered on incredibly harsh and stringent benefit regimes and endorsed numerous 'campaigns' against 'benefit cheats' etc.

No Ifs, No Buts, they should face the same sort of rigour and penalties that many claimants have had to face, a, woman with learning difficulties just missing jail, comes to mind
Absolutely.

I knew a young woman with learning disabilities who had her benefits cut because a locum doctor who had seen her for 5mins thought she didn't really need them. It took her over a year to get them back, meanwhile she, needless to say, couldn't get a job because of her disabilities. She fell prey to door to door ('legal') loan shark scum. Gordon Brown is on over £180k pa. If he wants his other homes cleaned (homes in no way necessary for his job), he can well afford to pay for it himself.

Absolutely - this is the most galling aspect of their corruption, nepotism and greed. The utter hypocrisy.

If caught wrongly claiming ordinary folk are faced with interview under caution, year's long harressment and a potential jail sentence - no excuse that ‘they couldn’t get their heads round’ the complicated rule and regulations.

And Parnell changes the status of his homes to avoid paying the due tax on the second one. I think we should throw the entire 'benefit-thieves' propaganda back at them

that page is just begging for a photoshop call.

i don't think i've ever been so angered by mp's since their failure to recognise the immorality and illegality of a military invasion.

Yes!

There was some woman MP whining how she 'needed' to claim a second (or was it third?) home expense for her partner because it was necessary for her personal life/ family life. I thought about people who are being grassed up because they can't afford to live with a partner legitimately, or people who actually separate because claiming as a couple is so stingy, who get called 'greedy' for doing so.
