Shall we have another MP expenses thread then?

i'm confused why can jack straw claim council tax as an expense? second home is it? surely that's fucking fraud right there if he's claimed the full whack. sorry if this lot has been snswered in the telegraph article but i cant get on the page from my mobile

Submitting for expenses that are illigit such as Smiths porn films and half Straws council tax is fraudulent. Period. Might be borne of ignorance but that doesnt get us serfs off the hook. It's not just that the rules are generally vague it's that the political and financial elite can do what they like and we, the profane mass, can go fuck ourselves (just as long as we pay up of course).

Has anyone noticed how all of the parliamentary parties are keeping schtum on this? Anyone would think they had something to hide. :D

:D no mileage in it is there, the 3 leaders know that one of their own is going to get collared at some point

all the parties are at it tbf
Yup.

I heard Mandy on the radio this morning, going on the attack. What irritates me is that the things they think it's "perfectly legitimate" to claim on expenses aren't expenses in the sense that the rest of us would understand. Why on earth would you claim cleaning bills on expenses? It isn't as if it was for Number 10, which is is used for official duties. It was for his other flat.

Who else would get away with putting that through expenses?

"Can I have a word about your expenses claims?"
"Yes, what's the problem?"
"These items...cleaning?"
"Yes, I've got a cleaner at home. The house gets a bit untidy".
"And how was that expended in the furtherance of your work duties?"
"Well, you know, I'm quite tired when I get home, and can't really be doing dusting and stuff."

I mean, Gordo gets £187, 611 of a salary. Surely he can pay his cleaner out of that?

My favourite was Eric Pickles trying to justify claiming for a second home when he lives 37 miles away from Westminster.

Eric Pickles "....Because the House of Commons works on clockwork: you have to be there, if you're on a committee, you have to be there precisely. Particularly for someone like me, I was a number two -"

David Dimbleby: "Like a job, in other words?"

My MP, Margaret Moran, seems to be on a very sticky wicket, claiming for three houses. Plenty of people commute from Luton to London; why can't she?

We don't just suddenly turn and accuse the current crop of corruption.

How long have rules been in place that allow this corruption?

It is corruption, no doubt. Sadly it is currently legal, I'm sure. It wasn't put in place by Brown and his cronies, I'm fairly sure.

Change the laws...hold those cunts that passed this as legal to account. Don't fall for anything else.

'Prudence'......Gordo was telling us ....whilst parliamentarians lined their pockets with pay, pensions......+ perks.

It shows they have no concept of poverty, restraint or pulling in the purse strings.....or basic budgeting.

McNulty is facing a police investigation into his expenses claim:

Guardian

Some more claims this morning including millionaire Tourism minister Barbara Follett claiming £25k for security outside her home. It really is shocking how much they have took the piss with our money.

The worst one I have seen so far is Margaret Moran redesignating her seaside holiday home as her second home a few days before getting it treated for dry rot to the cost of £20,000.

It seems that a lot of them would regularly change which home would be classed as their second home, which meant they could then claim shit loads of money to do it up.

http://www.insidehousing.co.uk/story.aspx?storycode=6504509

apart from the fact that the rental on that "second home" is probably around £6000 a year, and she claimed nearly £30,000, as a council tenant, she should be using this home as her principal home, and not claiming to the lords that it is her second home - so could get evicted (although I doubt it will come to that as her husband is the joint tenant

not the brightest button though:D

Bloody Hell. I guess those right-wingers were right when they said that council estates were full of people sponging off the government.

The whole concept of them re-designating homes and then having them done up must surely be illegal. They claim that they have broken no rules but how can it not be fraudulent if it can be shown the re-designation was purely to extract public cash?

I mean if you have two homes you pay 2 council taxes. However if you claim one home is left empty you get 6 months free council tax on that house. Claim that you swap houses every six months and see how long it takes for your council to haul you before a court.

What's really striking is how they're defending themselves by stating that they acted within the rules, whilst acknowledging that the rules are bent to fuck. It might be legal to fuck an 11 year old in Saudi Arabia, don't mean you ain't a paedo if you do.

The multi-millionaire tourism minister Barbara Follett forced the public to pay for her protection because she felt unsafe after being mugged and followed by a stalker.

But critics questioned why the wife of bestselling author Ken Follett, whose income has been put at £13 million a year by Forbes, had decided to live in the dangerous London nightspot of Soho if she felt unsafe, rather than at one of her other four homes.

The total cost of the security patrols between 2004 and 2008 was £25,411.64.

She also claimed £528.75 to repair and clean a Chinese needlepoint rug, but was only paid back £300 after the cost was deemed excessive.

I wonder if she feels safe from attack now??

Simply put Anarchism is …

“the negation of force; the elimination of all authority in social affairs; it is the denial of the right of domination of one man over another. It is the diffusion of rights, of power, of duties, equally and freely among all the people.”

All parties are in it. Remember Michael Trend?

And from the Telegraph article:

Telegraph said:
• Greg Barker, the shadow climate change minister, made £320,000 after buying a flat with the help of taxpayers' money, and selling it after only 27 months. He is the first senior Tory to become embroiled in the expenses row, but details of other prominent Conservatives will be disclosed in coming days.

But I'm particularly disappointed with Ms Moran, as she's my local MP.

Edit: I don't see why any MP within a 90 minute commute of the House should have a second home. Remember that 90 minutes is the commuting limit the Job Centre allows job seekers.

To be fair, if you've read any of her husband's books, you'd realise why security was necessary, they're that bad! :p

Thing is, these revelations are going to be bad for all parties ..

It is a smear on politicians rather than any in particular.

Will we trust any of them once this is over?
