I used to wash mine regularly - nobody ever told me that jeans work well with weeks of non wash :(
now it's just the smell/stain test

If the person who has sex with you is telling you that your jeans - the clothes your balls go in - need changing after three weeks - I'd say she's right.

so, imo - jeans need cleaning if
  1. the crotch smells like a hamster cage
  2. there is visible dirt (eg, mud / food) on them.
  3. they have gone shiny. shiny is a bad sign. a patina made of skin soup.

Unless they are greasy and water resistant through general cowboy awesomeness then ur doin it rong.

Although it might be best to go with the haters if they actually wiffff :o

Boy jeans can last longer than girl jeans without washing. Oh, I dunno. Yeah, wash em. Can't really go wrong unless you're the ironing sort.

Why did look at this thread? Its Sunday morning and I haven't had breakfast yet. I feel a bit sick now.
This thread is just minging!

Uggghhhh! :D

I agree with this.

Can anyone explain though, why is alright to wear jeans for that long without cleaning them, although not other trousers?

I'm wearing a pair that I bought in May 07. I've never washed them. They don't smell because I rotate them with other pairs.

Febreze if you must, but eventually the smell will worsen. Washing your jeans in detergent ruins them as the enzymes are harmful to the fabric. It is also damaging for the environment by using lots of water unnecessarily. Air them on the line during the day and any odour will miraculously disappear.

Jeans should only be washed when they feel damp to the touch. Hand wash using only vegetable-based soaps with very little agitation to reduce indigo loss. Line dry. Good for another year or so.

NEVER use an iron! Ironing jeans is just wrong, from every perspective.

Oh and the shiny patina is a 'feature'. Tsk. And as for knee bags, learn to embrace them. They're perfectly normal. All jeans bag at the knee. Worrying about them is a sign of anal retention.

Thanks monsterbunny, you speak many wise words on the subject. I will show her indoors later on, to prove that a 3-week pair should be the least of her concerns :)

You know when you have a wee and a drop or two escapes post-toilet and a bit of that impregnates your jeans and after a few thousand wees it's like you've done a full wee on them? That's the time to change them. You know, when you bend down to pick them up and you get a blast of rancid wee smell.
