Nobody is pretending Shaggy is in the same league as Nina Simone, but if you don't like people reversioning old tunes then maybe reggae isn't for you?

Anyway

Half hour mix of Shaggy and related material I did for my own amusement last year:

1.Intro
2.Shaggy - Reggae Vibes (Big Yard 7” 2006)
3.Kiprich – Telephone Ting (Big Yard 7” 2003)
4.Shaggy & Rik Rok - It Wasn't Me (from “Hotshot” album, 2000)
5.Lady Saw & Marsha - Son of a Bitch (Big Yard 7” 2000)
6.Shaggy – Church Heathen (Big Yard 7” 2007)
7.Ninja Man – The Pastor (Big Yard 7” 2007)
8.Version (Big Yard 7” 2007)
9.Shaggy – Hear This (Champagne International 7” 2007)
10.Assassin – Don't Dis The Man (Champagne International 7” 2007)
11.Beenie Man – Bad From Birth (Champagne International 7” 2007)
12.Shaggy – Rude Dub We Want (Champagne International 7” 2007)
13.TOK - ???? (Big Yard / VP 7” ???)
14.???? (Big Yard / VP 7” ???)
15. Folkes Brothers – Oh Carolina (off Trojan “Young Gifted and Black” comp. 1960)
16.Shaggy – Oh Carolina (Raas Bumba Claat version) (Greensleeves 12” 1993)
17.Josey Wales – Use Me (Greensleeves 12” 1993)
18.Daddy Sylva – Goody Body (Signet 7”, 1993)
19.Shaggy & Rayvon – Angel (from “Hotshot” album, 2000)

It's a bit rough and ready but check it out. Josey Wales and Ninjaman don't think Shaggy is "a prick".... :D

No, I have no problem with that, there's covers and covers and covers of reggae tracks and soul into reggae etc etc. But he's just a twat who butchered Joya Landis version into his own idiotic style.

So he's a twat because he "butchered" this sacred song which should be treated with reverence now until the end of the world and not touched by human hand unless it disrupts the space time continuum?

Or is he a twat for other reasons?

My money's on Snow and erm... Snow.

Well I dunno, he might be more of a roots man or something.

You'd be hard pressed to find many dancehall artists who don't think they are "god's gift to women" tho and the voice is hardly unusual...

It will be interesting to find out what Nixon is into, for sure.

Err no, he's just shite and he murders great songs. His shite version of 'Oh Carolina' doesn't help neither.

Oh Carolina and Mr Boombastic get people dancing. Especially people who normally only dance to Police & Thieves or Uptown Terminal Boredom.
Trouble is I can't hear Boombastic without remembering Mark Lemarr's version.
