That's a big issue in Jamaica too, between local blokes and middle-aged American females.
purves grundy said:Some of the 'they fuckin deserve to get AIDS' attitudes on here are unbelievable. Why the fuck would you wish that on people, just because they want to pay for sex with someone? Cos she's out of their league and they don't deserve her? Get real. Cos it's exploitative? For many women here, it's sadly the most lucrative option they have, and most are smart enough to get as much dosh as they can out of the customer as quickly as possible. Good luck to em - the alternatives are far worse.
As pointed out, few foreign customers are rich geezers on a business trip; a surprisingly large number are your average year out travellers.
My mate lives with, and will soon get married to, an HIV positive ex-prostitute in her mid20's. It's a smart move for him, as he's no spring chicken (but is a wonderful bloke), and it's smart for her as it promises a decent footing for her and her family. If they hadn't met, she'd be dead by now. They met through a disparity in economic fortunes... in what way is their relationship 'wrong'?
Where in this thread did anyone suggest that anyone 'deserved to get AIDS' ? I can't see it anywhere. I certainly don't, anyway. I'm just disappointed that some (married with kids) people I know take risks and don't seem at all concerned about it, that's all.I'm confused Where in this thread did anyone suggest that anyone 'deserved to get AIDS' ?

The increasing trend of women looking for "boyfriends" in the Carribean is an interesting and (IMPO) rather distasteful new trend, however I don't think the reason its not quite as talked about as men going to get "girlfriends" is so much double standards as opposed to it being a) a relatively new trend, and b) arguably not as widespread. After all, where are all the bars with men squeezing ping pong balls out their arse?Ryazan said:Good point. Such a double standard often gets missed in all the cliche-ridden indignation at the western men searching for some cheap exploitative sex with people in developing or middle income countries.
Ryazan said:And Thailand isn't the preserve of males looking for sleazy fun either. Middle aged, professional women deluding themselves that they are attractive (like their male counterparts) by picking up locals, and well, using them, cynically. Economic and sexual exploitation isn't just comitted by sweaty, ugly white men, but also sweaty ugly white women too. Now, I am getting cliched!![]()
But that isn't the full picture, as Purves has already pointed out in another post about someone he knows.

I know that those who work with orphans in India are xtremely suspicious of Western men who wish to work in sector, so many of them have bribed their way out having molested 100s of children. It damages the rep of those who are really there to help

Go to any posh 'business hotel' in London on a weekday evening, or alternatively the Fifth Floor bar in Harvey Nicks. There you will find plenty of 'ladies of the night' all waiting to get their mitts on a fat wallet.

Interestingly, from having been a backpacker, I remember in Malowi the local men would flock around female backpackers and could be very charming (and, if I'm honest, sometimes fit as!) I can quite see why someone who perhaps isn't used to such attention and is rather gullable might fall for it. Interestingly one guy we were chatting to ended up marrying a Western tourest and moved to Britain with her for a whole year before it fell apart and he returned home. I think the whole "relationship" (as opposed to just sex with a prostitute) thing can be very complicated - in some instances I have no doubt that the Westerner is preditory, but in other instances I think they can be manipulated into thinking that something is there when it is not.
I also think there's potentially a huge difference between the whole "relationship" thing and going to see a prostitute who is stuck in a brothel unable to leave and being highly likely to be trafficked, or abusing underage kids.

Well yes ha ha!pinkmonkey said:Well it seemed to happen in Metaponto too![]()

I meant what I said, isn’t “I hope they gets what’s coming to them” an English phrase?Hollis said:So what did you mean then?

Oh the humanity!pinkmonkey said:In fact even the locals shag the locals.

pk said:As for backpackers - yeah, if they're paying young children for sex then I wouldn't give a toss if they wound up dead.
- is that known to happen??Epicurus said:I meant what I said, isn’t “I hope they gets what’s coming to them” an English phrase?
I’ve heard it used a number of times, if someone is standing at a bus stop and for no reason at all someone walks up to that person and punches them in the face wouldn’t you say I hope the attacker “gets what’s coming to them”.
As I said there was no mention of AIDS on this thread when I made my comment, so why is it being linked to the words AIDS that appeared long after my post?

Admittedly I have met some of the most incredibly ugly and truely hideous men here, getting their rocks off to the local and often very pretty Thai prostitutes. Due to their size, some of the Thai women can look extremely young, but actually are well into their twenties. If pedo's can get off on that, I would say thats probably a good thing.
Thing about prostitution in Thailand is that its not really here for tourists. About 5% of prostitution is aimed at the western tourist. Thats gonna be mainly in Pattaya and Bangkok. The rest is use by the Thai's and their Malay friends.
The other thing thats different in Thailand is that the sex industry is not sleezy. Its hard to define but it all 'hangs out'. Totally in your face and deemed acceptable by all and sundry. Its a cultural thing.
There is a website that has stories from western men meeting thai women.
http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/ (Down at the moment, but I expect that temp)
Its can be quite sad to read at times. Thai women aren't stupid. They are very astute... http://www.bangkokbob.net/10_commandments.htm
With all the attention it now gets, Thailand has been cleaning up it act, its still not perfect. Cambodia is where all the scary sex tourists have now moved to, that is home to the chicken farms....
Hollis said:Yes a mate of mine tells me that the ones who work in Bangkok actually have a much better deal than the local village prostitutes. Not justifiying just saying.
Well, its still a pretty shocking state of affairs where the easiest way of earning good money (for some I'd imagine the only possible way) is by entering this profession. Mind you, its not too dissimilar the same world over.fela fan said:Many of those working where westerners go mate are there by choice. They recognise the money they can get. Many others go into the profession not that willingly, but do so in order to send money to their family. They then, much like in any job, adapt to the needs of the job.
