If you have Sci-Fi, they often show some bizarre sequel late at night. It's called something like "Emmanuelle in Space", bizarrely.

With a few exeptions, most of 80's Hollywood sex scenes are particularely cringe worthy, though I disagree with you on French films. Emmanuelle is soft porn, but there are plenty of films like The Piano Teacher or Under the Sand where the sex scenes are realistic and essential to the plot. Both of those films for instance also feature actresses in their 50's (Isabelle Huppert, Charlotte Rampling), which is something you don't often get in Hollywood films.

Well, i didnt say all of the sex scenes in french movies are not essential to the plot. You mentioned 2. But i find it strange that i cant really think of many french movies that lack sex scenes to be fair. La Haine, City of Lost Children, maybe... but not many more that i can think of.

That coupled with the fact that it is usually random, and yes gratitious sex scenes too.

They generally embarrass/bore me. One of the few ones that's any good is Emma Thompson and Jeff Goldblum in 'The Tall Guy', which manages to be sexy by virtue of being funny. Oh, and having Jeff Goldblum in it.

I think Irreversible has far more artistic merit. But I'm hijacking the thread now...

But then again, i like a bit of 70's soft-core/slasher b-movies, so what do i know?

Well directed and interesting sex scenes in films are rare. One that sticks in my mind is from Don't Look Now, which has great passion and strange editing.

Best British sex scene, as Don't Look Now is a British film and Showgirls contains one of the funniest sex scenes ever but despite her efforts the girl didn't manage to drown herself as far as I remember.
