Sex Pistols vs Spice Girls

One was manufacted, OK granted to some extent Malcolm Mclaren manufactured the Sex Pistols but they already existed before hand. The Spice Girls were an answer to the boy band craze.

Oh watching a loud mouth, a smack head, and two competent musicians dressed up in bondage clothes swearing at the queen was so seminal

absolutely seminal

"did that seem seminal to you?"
"seminal as fuck mate"

Pistols. Spice Girls were a crappy gimmick band that sold a tits-out version of femnism, a total fucking laddish style of womanhood. Bullshit, and somehow worse than Sex Pistols version of anti establishment punk ethos. Least the Pistols actually believed the generated hype.

I like the Spice Girls better myself, they were fun, they never gobbed on people or took heroin

I like girls who dance about and have fun better than cockney heroin addicts

Well, there is that. Even as a teen I wanted to take a steam cleaner to the Pistols.

The Spice Girls were boring as fuck. The Pistols might be overrated, but at least they were interesting (and actually capable of performing their songs live).

The challenge was for firky :p There's not a lot more mind, which was isitme's point
There's only one genuinely bad track on Never Mind the Bollocks (Bodies). So that's 10 decent songs to start with.

Honestly, I don't buy all this stuff about how they were the single greatest punk band ever, but they were far from the worst.

The Spice Girls: 1 good tune, no politics, 5 annoying bints, meant nothing to me.

Sex Pistols: Lots of good tunes, decent enough politics, 1 very entertaining numpty, sid's taste in underpants, rock n roll anecdotes, meant a little to me.

On the whole that's a conclusive win for the Pistols, though damned with faint praise.

But it wasn't about just about the songs - it was everything else that came with it.

I can understand why people who weren't around at the time might look back with a shrug after hearing the album now, but there was a lot more to it than that. Honest, guv.

so you set up a thread seeking to belittle The Sex Pistols because it was reported that John Lydon's security made some racist remarks...well done

The Spice Girls are very similar, they also had a massive effect on pop music, they also inspired thousands of teenagers, they also had a swathe of bands following in their wake. And they also only have about 4 songs that still sound decent

Is this a fair comparison?

no. I always thought the spice girls were shite, and am embarassment to feminism. Five ranting chavs screeching 'Girl power!' They never changed anything for me. They reversed it. Slapper hos with crap chunes.

i am not a woman who looks at Jordan and thinks 'fair play' though. She still sold her soul and her ass to make money, and money isnt worth losing your soul or dignity.

Sapper hos? What they used to sneak behind enemy lines and plant explosives?

Well I never. Bet the Pistols never did that!
