Sex and the City: What did you reckon then? (Spoilers allowed)

not true. i have plenty to do soj, just no inclination to do it :)

I didn't say you had nothing to do sweetie - I said 'nothing BETTER' - so you just agreed with me ;)

Anyway, thought all those high heels and expensive frocks would have been right up your street :p

It's Mr Big in the book, so I suppose that settles it :p

I don't think it was film-worthy. Extended special on tv – yes, fine, but over 2 hours of film was probably a bit too optimistic.

I enjoyed it though. All the nay-sayers need to realise it wasn't made for them, it was made for the people who loved the series and wanted to see the ends tied up. With that in mind, it performed admirably.

I can't see the point of Louise from St Louis either (and Newsnight Review were particularly snide about that aspect – saying she didn't even qualify as the token black person she was so under-represented).

All in all, I had to fight back the tears, loved the parts everyone else loved, found issues with the parts other people did, but am happy I saw it and will probably watch it again one day on the telly.

One thing I found cringeworthy though was the extent of the consumerism. It was so blatant, more so than in the tv series I thought. That pissed me off. The wedding dress montage was pure vom.

i thought it was a bit pish and yes, the consumerism was horrid. when carrie gave st louise the (unspeakably fugly) louis vuitton purse i wanted to chew my own arm off. its not a kidney for your dying grandma, its a fucking handbag! and not even a pretty one too.

i did like: charlottes 'NO'! that was the only bit where she felt like the old, not- always- totally- sappy charlotte

sam's ENORMOHAT

the vivienne westwood wedding dress and the bird

the bit on the bridge (blub)

it needed:

more jokes

more harry. i love harry.

less product placement

more beauty 60s style shift dresses and swing coats.

overall- i only went to see it for the ending factor, and decided- i liked the old ending better.

Philip French seems to be morphing into Brian Sewell - here's a choice quote from his review:

Philip French said:
They greet each other with loud whoops and kisses at every encounter, sounding and behaving like drunken office girls out on a spree the week before Christmas, and their conduct lacks reticence, taste and understanding.

:D

So, a film primarily about a woman who spends most of her time writing about fashion, and works for a fashion mag, is blatantly consumerist...? Really...?

oh yeah, what was all that fuss about carrie's phoen number? she was like 'ugh i'ma 182 now' or something?

i didn't get it

I thought it was something to do with area code but with mobile phones eg in London you can be 0207 or 0208. Sort of like postcode snobbery.

oh right.

i liked it when samantha hadned carrie her iPhone and carrie said 'i canit use this!':D

Dude, I'm well aware of what the series is about, I've watched it from the beginning. I found it more blatant than usual. I am allowed to say that you know.

Ugh, I've basically just repeated the comment you quoted to begin with. I'm really unsure what you're taking umbridge with.

i adored it - i thought i would burst when i saw the new closet, and when charlotte was actually pregnant (charlotte was fiesty in the film! there was applause when she finally told big "I curse the day you were born").

the actual wedding being in the town hall with the no label suit was screamingly obvious from the time big and carrie had the awkward conversation about the number of guests.

samantha was great - i like that she wasn't unfaithful to smith - but i found that farfetched (btw - samantha was always the wealthiest - she used to be 'Samantha Jones - Public Relations' before she became Smith's manager).

I quite liked the Louise character (although the "bringing 'Love' home" twaddle was irritating) - i was nice to see someone younger getting excited over their first designer handbag. I loved that moment. It was brill (and yes, a fugly bag, but almost all LV bags are).

I thought Miranda got off really lightly - she was being utterly shit to steve before they split up, and while his infidelity was awful, she was not an innocent party.

But..... he tried to call her, many, many times and in his message said that he just needed to talk to her first and didn't want to walk in alone. A bit weak but understandable.
He's been married twice, it hasn't worked. He loves Carrie but is freaked out by the huge wedding and is worried that he and Carrie won't be the same after the wedding. To compound this Miranda spouts her mouth off at the dinner.

Then, he drives away, barely gets down the street and then realises what an idiot he's been so he goes back.
.

I was kind of thinking that, but then I was also thinking TEN YEARS! Really, if you can't get over your own fears after that long, what's the point?

Steve deserved to be forgiven. Big didn't.

i loved carrie bashing big with the flowers and then charlotte shouting at him 'NO!!'
that was cool
Charlotte shouting nearly made me cry. It was then I felt how serious and broken the situation was at that moment.

Carrie had every right to be devastated but I think it's right that they got back together. :)

I thought the Miranda storyline was great and the bit on the bridge was just lovely as was the bit when Carrie goes to Miranda on NYE.

I can understand disappointment about Samantha not being her old self but by the end of the series she had changed. She'd survived cancer, fallen in love and although it would have been fun to see her shagging all over Manhattan but that would have betrayed what she had with Smith and I'm glad it ended how it did for them.

i like pretty clothes and spenny shoes, yes. this doesn't, however, make me a moron
:hmm:

we went to see this last night

most has already been said but my take is:

if you liked the TV series you will like the film, if you dont you probably wont.

for me it was a bit too long but was enjoyable. Mrs pingu loved it - shes a big fan of the TV series
