Sewing on a button

Oh, and for best and the most aesthetically pleasing result, the direction of the stitches should be the same as the buttonhole - ie, vertical buttonhole, vertical stitching on the button.

(more inportant on 2 hole or shank buttons)
Ooooh, you're good

Btw I am completely horrified by those who said buy a new shirt!

Honestly, you'd buy a new shirt because a button came off??

What is it about buttons?

When I go to knitting and stitching shows it's the button stands that people make a beeline for (me included)

I *heart* buttons.

There's something comforting about running your hands through them. And some of them are incredibly intricate. They appeal to my magpie instinct. I like sequins too.

I did a thread a while back about an ex colleague proper cooing over a button catalogue with endless samples sewn into the book.

:D

I agree with your garment and zip v button distribution btw. Except for denim jackets :hmm:

Oh, generally, I was thinking more about leather jackets and those light sports jackets you get where only a zip will do but of course, buttons are the only suitable fastener for a denim jacket. Quite right.

The occasional bit of velcro doesn't go amiss, but it has to be used sparingly imo.

I've got a jacket with loads of zips and velcro on it :o

I bet you have.
