Severance was quite good. Certainly a lot better than A Scanner Darkly which I walked out of..

 I liked Severance-it worked on its own terms but A Scanner Darkly is a mucher better film.Innovative use of animation,Slacker humour a look at Big Brother type corporate politics in a more profound way than Severance.

What was interesting about Severance is the take on Eastern Europe.Seems no surprise to me that with the new accession members we are getting movies with some black humour set in Eastern Europe. Its also cheaper to film there than in the west. The same topics were covered by Hostel.Stereotypes of Eastern Europe like hot available willing "babes",mad east europeans in the woods, bears:eek: .With complacent westerners thinking they can do what they want there.

Without getting to profound it reflects some of the anxieties around EU expansion.By the way Hostel was made in the Czech republic but the clever Czechs made sure it was set in Slovakia:D .Not that the Slovaks were amused.

Saw this last night ,quite enjoyed it and made me chuckle a few times. I went to school with Toby Stevens so seeing him decapitated was quite weird :D

I saw it at the cinema recently and really enjoyed it as well. I particularly liked the idea behind it, which for once was relatively possible. The killers weren't burdened with desperately specific psychosis or particularly concerned with over-elaborate schemes, just everyday dudes fucked up by a situation who had ended up getting a taste for killing. They also fell over when hit and died when shot, another possible first for slasher movies.
