Severance - TV series

Who was in Irving’s place when he was at the awkward dinner at Burt’s? And that was a pretty clear hint at the end that Burt was aware of being a lure, no?

Burt is definitely dodgy. FIelds made the mistake of telling Irv he'd been at Lumon for 20 years, which is longer than the severance programme has been running. The guy looking through Irv's stuff is the security guy from Lumon I think.

Irv is up to something though. Who does he keep calling from the phone box? Why has he got all those notes on the other severed people? I read a fan theory that he is a PI who has volunteered for severance so he can find out whats going on and is reporting it back to someone. He's also ex-military.

It occurs to me that if someone’s outie causes problems and they’re a loner, what’s to stop the overtime contingency being turned on for good. 🤷‍♀️

I think Helena has inserted herself into the innie world to control Mark, by any means necessary, including sleeping with him. Mark is drifting off the program due to missing and remembering Gemma, something Lumon did not anticipate

Mark’s cooperation will’ve been necessary for the upcoming Battle of Cold Harbor

What was not anticipated was Helly R developing feelings for innie Mark

Also, concerning the postal code PE. Could it be Prince Edward Island? The climate in the show certainly looks like it could…

My assumption was that it was in a ficticious US state, perhaps the same on The Simpsons’ Springfield is in

The above was gleaned from the Streaming Things pod. It was also pointed out that ORTBO is an anagram of ‘robot’ and Dieter Eagan is an anagram of ‘AI Generated’
Perhaps they are hinting at us, perhaps they’re just chucking out more red herrings

I’m pretty sure Burt and Fields’ are feeding Irving pure bullshit. They’re definitely lying about the reason Burt got severed. That religion angle is complete horseshit. They seem to be relying on Irving being ignorant of Christianity, if they expected him to believe that story

I was a bit disappointed with the latest EP. First one tgat felt like a bit of a dud. . Maybe because I had been waiting all week for it.

I think Fields is completely truthful, to the point of him being too truthful in Burt's eyes obviously. I feel he genuinely believes that Burt's soul can be saved thanks to severance, which really adds to the possibility of how much of a shit Burt actually was (or maybe still is).

he can't be genuine. He says they're Lutherans. Pretty sure they wouldn't condemn a soul to hell because they were formerly a scoundrel. Can't recall which denoms believe some souls are beyond saviour, but it ain't the Lutherans.

Ah that's a good point, I hadn't picked up on that. I would hope that's deliberate and not just a mistake in the writing.

Isn't it the Calvinists who are the doomed souls people? Don't strict Calvinists believe a lot of people are doomed from birth?

A Google suggests that Lutharians believe that Jesus made it so hell is only for unbelievers, suggesting that a murderer has more chance of escaping it than an atheist. Isn’t scripture great. :)

See (most of) you all there! 🥳

"Lutheran theology accepts the reality of hell. We aren’t called to judge who is going to hell, nor should we allow the fear of hell to determine how we live. The creeds and Lutheran Confessions proclaim that Christ descended into hell and destroyed it for all believers. Wholly, by God’s grace alone, Christ has snatched us from the jaws of evil and the “gates of hell” will not prevail against our election."

Interesting. He definitely aint a Lutheran then. Good spotting.

I think Methodists like to damn people beyond salvation too.
Though I am struggling to remember my religious studies, over 35 years ago. Could be remembering it all wrong.

Talking of cars, the Sandler & Scott podcast is all transcribed by AI, so you can read along. It is mostly spot on, but fails consistently on two points. One is the advert (heard three times an episode?), for Adlassian or Atlassian. It gets initially written the first way, but when they spell it out, it comes out the second way. Which is just magnificently pointless, in a very Severance type way.

The other, on topic, thing is, that while they have no problem with 'innies', 'outies' always, but always comes out as 'Audis'.

It amused me, anyway.

Lead characters in TV and film always drive unusual cars. When you're watching Inspector Morse it's easy to pick him out because he's in an old Jag surrounded by contemporary cars. If he drove a Ford Mondeo like other police, you would be wondering which car is his as he arrives. Same reason you see yellow scrappers in Better Call Saul and Inbetweeners. Or Walter White drives that strange Pontiac Aztec. The cars become an extension of the character.

I’ve just finished it too, though I am really going to have to do so again to have a chance of working out what happened.

If we were in any doubt that Lumon aren’t very nice, we aren’t any more.

Sandra Bernhardt :)

The guest stars in this series have been fantastic. And to add to that, the "doctor" (I'm not 100% sure of his qualifications) in this episode is only the voice of Beast in the original Beauty and the Beast.
