That made me think...has anyone else read Offshore by Penelope Fitzgerald? It's a pretty much autobiographical novel of a family living on a boat in Chelsea Harbour out of necessity and when Chelsea was a very different area. Highly recommended.

No spoilers, but I can almost guarantee you won't want to live on a houseboat after reading it.
