FWIW, I think the IRA gained more concessions once they started bombing the City & other economic targets rather than shooting squadies on their own turf, which had become barely newsworthy. Some things matter more to politicians, no matter how many times they call stuff cowardly.


The fundies seem to like staging a big show generally - capital cities are part of this. It's actually less effective as a means of terrorising a nation as 95% of the population know they're very unlikely to encounter it. If they really wanted everyone watching their backs they'd blow up a bus in Loughborough or shoot up a shopping centre in Dundee - make everyone feel a potential target. They're not that smart though, thankfully.

Because the right-wing areas share a lot of their views and ways of thinking.

I know Spain voted in a Socialist government I'm not sure where Madrid stands though?

Madrid has been a stronghold of the christian conservative Partido Popular for many years now, as was the national government of Spain at that time (the PSOE won an election immediately after the attacks, largely because the then Prime Minister tried to pretend that Basque separatists were responsible)

just one problem; in general, the North of England is considerably to the Left of large swathes of London. London had no coalpits, for one thing.
