Serenity's on again in a minute - I may have to watch it for the 4th time

well the actor doesn't have the charm to carry it off.
and what's with the dialogue quoting? it's rubbish typically shite tv scifi dialogue.

Firefly/serenity has humour... something you dont usually get in sci-fi. Except of the 'oh its a mechanical dog, dumb android, hilarious arrogant computer.' type.

Plus its serious, enigmatic, sad ....plus sexy women. :D

Real gunfights, not star wars pretend fights where no-one manages to shoot a damn thing.

No aliens or time-jumping...

Was just about to post a thread asking if I should bother watching but the general consensus seems to be "yes" to "maybe". Hmmmm.

EDIT: On a 9pm tonight.

i enjoyed it

you sorta have to see the series to get the most out of it though

i must say however that i'm not really a firefly fan. it wasn't horrible but i just don't get what people really liked about it. yeah the characters weren't badly written but the episodes themselves tended to be a bit forgettable

I see that this is a massive bump, though I also see that my opinion has not changed at all. Well, "load of cock" was for effect, "mostly competently acted collection of sci-fi cliches with endless tiresome bullshit Western references" would be better.

Agree with most of this, fans massively oversell how great the show was ime...

Love Serenity, even have the soundtrack but I didn't warm to Firefly to start with but by the end of the first season I was hooked and then gutted when it was canceled, also Nathon Fillon is always worth watching.;)

And I still think it's amazing viewing. Though perhaps I should stop saying that and let all the naysayers take the space, because it's so much harder to like a series that some people say is 'the best thing evah!' It makes you watch out for all the bad points instead of just enjoying it.

I missed Firefly completely when it was originally shown for some reason and only saw the series for the first time fairly recently (like over the last 2 weeks type of recently), and I absolutely loved it. I didn't think the film was anywhere near as good.

Well I give the film a 6/10. I did enjoy it though. But I am deducting makrs for it being trashy and cliche ridden. It certainly loses one whole point for the character of Jayne who was just appaling. Also the gender roles were pretty conformist.

So yeah, good in an afternoon matinee way but no more.

What? there are four women in the show, and each one of them is well drawn and unique.

What - nerd girl, wise sexy matriarch, secret ninja internet sex fantasy and... the one that I'd forgotten and had to look up? "Not complete sci-fi stereotypes" doesn't mean "well drawn and unique".

Dollhouse was equally shit- wheon hit a pastiche/clever re-imagining of vampires and monsters with a great cast and made something enjoyable and (at the time) fresh with Buffy. Even that dissapeared up its own arse eventually. Everything else has been total shit.

You also forgot hard core ex soldier with a deep abiding love for her geeky husband.

Thats four decently sketched female characters for a single Sci Fi film.

Face it thats twice the amount of the entire star wars films.

He's got two decent feature writing credits Titan AE and oh whats that name Toy Story (he got nominated for a Oscar for that.)

He was a staff writter when Roseanne wasn't shit. Ever wonder why Becky Connor had a "Invisibles" poster on her wall

He's written a bunch of comics including a decent run on the X-men.

He wrote Buffy, Angel and Firefly in the same decade. While the writers strike was on he wrote a incredibly musical video short.

Cabin in the Woods has incredibly word of mouth. And he's directing the freaking Avengers movie.

Everything else is total shit?

Total crap mate.
