Serenity

I like the ending because it pointed directly to a sequel....or a pre-quel dealing with the civil war...and that one battle where Mal had everyone killed but won the medal for valour - i can smell corruption off that one....

Read the novels, loved Firefly, completely bewildered as to why they took it off, can't wait.

See the first 9 minutes of Serenity here.

<SPOILER ALERT!>

Because they killed off a major character in very a Trinity-esque way. They had him die like a bitch.

But that death was fantastic, it totally came out of nowhere and really created a feeling of not knowing which characters were going to make it (I thought Simon might die when he was shot in the tunnel). I know Wash was a great character but I think killing him off worked brilliantly.

Although I haven't the slightest idea what this is about, I intend to use my ad hoc day off to see this.

Off out in a mo to buy food to eat during it. Shall take butchers' advice and not buy chips on way home :)

I'm tempted. The poster puts me off slightly since the main woman in it who is holding the weapons is posing in a very unstable pose. Her straight leg's foot really should be flat to the ground, not on it's side - she's got a real risk of falling over.

Nah she's too cool to fall over, besides she's a psychic assassin.

Seriously you should go see it, it's really good.

So

Swords, spaceships, weird chemicals fucking up people's brains, zombies and nice looking girlies firig off big guns n shit.

That film was made for me

She was also a top class ballerina so probably knows a thing or two about balance...

and she annoyed me the entire way through this film!

but generally i found it actually a lot better than i thought (me not being a scifi fan an all), i thought the plot stood up to me constant picking and the characters were suitably filled out (which i guess is what you get if you lift them from a previous show), the baddies were bad, the goodies weren't angelic and the scenery was pretty.

so i didnt mind too much accompanying derv to see it.

but it has lined itself straight up for a sequel.

wiskers

the only real drawback was that before the film started we had to watch the h&m romeo and juliet video of some wailing woman which went on and on and on whitney styleeeeeeeeEEEEE

I want my money back for having to sit through that awful pile of shite...

(The H&M advert that is.)

The film was really good, very pleased that it lived up to expectations. Thought that there could have been a bit more with Book, I want to know what his involvment with the Alliance was even more now!

Would like to see the s/prequal, only problem with a prequal is that half the characters wouldn't be in it.

Here's hoping someone else picks up the series.

Can't wait to watch this. Been downloading and watching Firefly these past couple of weeks, it's one of the best shows out of the US in years IMO.

Found a DVD of Serenity the other day, but it was a crap cam copy. Hopefully a decent one will come along soon.

I've not seen Firefly but I thought as a whole it was very good. A hell of a lot up there on sceen for the budget - WOW!

It was a bit Brade Runner-meets-5th Element-meets-Star Wars-meets-Empire-meets-Star Trek-meets-Indiana Jones. But that was OK. The biggest problem was that as it started to sag after her first freak-out it caught a bit of a case of extended-episodism.

I loved firefly (downloaded the theme song sad or wot ) Serenity was
Brillant scary, funny .It wasn't obvious how it was going to end great film go and see it .

eh? eh? eh?

has the world turned upside down?

that's was fucking pish.

thousand year old plot, dull characters, overwhelmingly obvious dialogue, no good alien monsters.

a couple of laughs along the way, but overall, should have gone to see corpse bride instead.

Just watched it. Good film I thought. Don't know if I would have liked it as much if I hadn't watched the entire Firefly series over the past couple of weeks beforehand. IMHO the series is a bit better - it's more stylish, and has more interesting genre crossovers (Medieval/Western/Scifi, plus all the chinese-anglo crossover) compared to Serenity which looked slightly more like a standard 'movie'. Also the series, because of it's innate nature, gives you time to get you into the characters more. In the film it all felt slightly rushed. But then that's mainly down to the Tv series v film thing.

Still, I really enjoyed it, and would have to say that, barring Batman Begins, this is the best of the 'big budget movies' (although ironically it had a smaller budget than some of the other summer films) this summer.

I disagree with Belboid's review - and plan to write a counter review for urban review later!

I doubt if they'll make another series. Fox was never behind Firefly. They really screwed it over by running episodes out of order at a bad time and day. They also ran it some weeks and not others. That's the best way I know of to kill a series.

Apparently there was a clause in the contract for the film that says they can't make another series for 15 years! However, as far as I know they will make 2 more films if the first is a success.
