Some tourist pics of London from yesterday. Nice weather.

cheer up! it should spur you on, not get you down :)

Heh, I know...just messing. I am just a 'see something, point and shoot' person. So any tips I get here on how to improve are much welcomed! I've been toying with the idea of getting a decent camera and maybe taking a few lessons to get me started.

a few more

Some pictures that I took today. I have not had my camera for long.

I didn't even see the writing on the tree on the last one, when I took the picture. I only noticed it afterwards!

Back to my old theme again now that the winter has come

All taken with an Olympus E420 using a pancake 25mm prime lens (equivalent to 50mm on 35mm film format) Program mode was used with exposure bias of -1/3 to minimise highlight clipping.

Post processing minimal - some levels tweaking on most and a bit of cropping on a few of the whole set of 27 from which these are taken and a bit of Unsharp Mask on a very few.

My God....that last one is amazing....like the Turin shroud of the tree world....that is the late great Billy Fury on the bark????

Walk along the Thames yesterday, found that Chambers Wharf Cold Stores are being demolished - I loved the textures on the building but it's covered with cladding now :(

High Royds Psychiatric Hospital

High Royds opened 1888 as the 'West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum' in the small village of Menston, Yorkshire.

Designed by architect Edward J.Vickers, the hospital encompasses a broad arrow layout with the male and female patients divided into opposing sides of the solid stone built administration block.

A fully self-sufficient site, the Asylum boasted its own railway line and train station, vast surgical operating theatres, a Church, lavish ballroom, onsite patient's shop, four separate farms, a bakery and a mortuary.

During the hospital's zenith, nearly 3,000 patients were living on site; sadly 900 recorded patients passed away in the asylum and were buried nearby in un-marked graves.

To address this issue the hospital purchased further grounds to accommodate the dead and later in 1963 was re-named from 'West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum' to 'High Royds'.
