Seinfeld thread

Actually, it's more like it's just a really good show - get past the slap bass, watch three eps in a row (that'll take an hour, what's an hour?) and most people will be hooked. Within the first three shows, you have "the pony incident" which is a very good ep indeed, although Jerry's parents have a different dad and Kramer is agrophobic at first, which, I'll grant you, is odd.

Tried getting into Seinfeld a few times in my lazier moments, never worked for me; could never see anything particularly interesting there and the dialogue simply being a tool to set up predictable punch lines is boring.

Plus the entire cast annoys me, so predictable, so dull.

Jerry Seinfeld is pretty fucking irritating, but Seinfeld's plot lines are surreal a lot of the time, I cant believe it was such a mainstream success in America.
"Surreal" doesn't mean good or even interesting. In fact, in my opinion and experience, it rarely does. Oh, and the episodes I saw weren't surreal anyway, just dull.

Jerry to Kramer: I said you could watch a movie in my room, I didn't say you could bring that in here (pointing at Newman)

Literally, when I see the stuff people are saying that is negative about this show, it's like they are talking about another show completely. It just bears no relation to my experience of having watched every episode about 5 times each. I'm ready to die for this shit right here, esse.

Took me a while to get into it, but then I ended up watching several series back to back and thought it was brilliant. But having now watched Curb, I'd say that was the funnier programme. Larry David is just a genius.

Aiiiight. Word.
'the same as any other imported shit American sitcom' I think someone must have switched the contents of your Seinfeld box set with 'Everyboby Loves Raymond'.
Seinfeld is the dogs nuts, it's the bitches pancakes, you cannot fuck with that shit right there

Yeah, next time Seinfeld comes on and you hate it - wait till the ads to make sure it isn't 2 and a half cunts, I mean 2 and a half cunts.

Alright then, absurb in a very funny way, ie, a big 6 foot 5 bloke who is scared shitless of two poindexter little Puerto Rican gay guys, who intimidate him and make his life a misery. A repulsive fat bloke who turns his nose up at beautiful women.
Its a rollercoaster of hilarity if only you'll jump on rather than moaning about the meteor design they've airbrushed on the carriages

There is absolutely no way you'd entice me to emulate that. But are you really saying that's what I'd need to do in order to "get" it? In which case, answer me two questions: Is that how long it took you to reach Seinfeld-enlightenment? And what was the motivation?

My favourite has to be the Marble Rye. George and his parents in all their glory with the added bonus of Kramer feeding Rusty the horse a giant can of Beef-a-reeno and Elaine dating the saxophonist who "doesn't do everything".

George Costanza : "It's all locking in!"

Sheer genius.

I was shown Seinfeld by an American who couldn't understand why us brits didn't even get to see it - as it was stuck on in the middle of the night on BBC2. So many Seinfeld-isms have entered regular language in the States complete Seinfeld knowledge is regarded as a given, and as the humour is very 90s a bit passe. Whereas here in the UK I think it has cult status almost, as so few have seen it let alone appreciated it. Maybe the best way to view it is as a proto-Curb Your Enthusiasm. So if you like curb its very likley you'll like Seinfeld. It is very useful to have a New Yorker around to explain the in jokes.

I like Seinfeld because all the characters are so shallow! And they take the piss out of themselves brilliantly with the pilot sitcom.

What I have found here is that no one has seen it, and so you see somthing and say 'ohg thats just like in Seinfeld' and the other person says 'oh I never watched it' and then you say 'well there was this episode where..' and yadda yadda yadda you've ruined an episode for someone if they ever see it, the joke is dead and everyone feels quite tired.

What's the name of that episode where George drives Susan's parents all over the Hamptons supposedly to his house there?

I'm surprised how many people don't remember the Soup-Nazi. I have a Soap-Nazi t-shirt and loads of people think it's a picture of Stalin on the front:o:D

My favourite character - George (I have a George t-shirt also)
