We have a world class attack now which means more wickets. I certainly can't remember another England 'keeper dropping so many chances.

A good attack means more chances, which means more catches AND more drops.

So you think that Jack Russell would've dropped more chances given the opportunity?

Compared to Jones or generally?

Generally, yes he would, obviously. If a keeper has twice as many chances, on average he'll take twice as many catches and also drop twice as many, assuming a fairly consistent success rate.

He'd probably have caught more than Jones though, granted.

But there should be no difference in the amount of catches or drops per wicket taken.

There's something reassuring about hearing the phrase 'Strauss and Trescothick'. Like 'King and Country' or 'Crosse and Blackwell' or something. But better.

Malinga has the most absurd action I've ever seen.

Hard to tell from this. When he gets to the crease his back is almost facing the bowler. Very side-on slingy job.

I like his action - something a bit different. The English bowlers have boring actions.

God cricket's geeky.

The BBC site is fairly up to the minute I think.

Aye, and Guardian OBO is the one to read for humour and general niceness.

Meanwhile, Murali strikes in his first over, you wouldn't bet against it though wouldya.

good start by england, notwithstanding the fact they let the tail off the hook AGAIN!
It is nothing short of criminal to let a 9th wicket partnership put on 50, especially after all that good work which that stand nearly undid

They got them out for 141. I'll let them off a slight lapse at the end of the innings.

agreed - but true champions go for the full kill when they scent blood, like the aussies of old

I hope the prospect of losing a day or two to rain will heighten England's sense of urgency and get on with it.

I went yesterday, first test match I've been too and it was a fantastic day out. Unfortunately we had to leave 30 minutes before the end so missed pieterson smacking it about. I'm very sunburt now though.

Fuck the cricket Gower just read out summat I e-mailed to Sky. I can die happy. Hoggard has the letters SSWTB on his arm guard so Bumble asked people to mail in what it stands for last night. So Solid With The Bat was mine, boring but hey, Gower read it. On telly.

Wow.

Yes, I am this pathetic.

100 up for KP. Sri Lanks absolutely no idea where to bowl to him today, hitting fours all round the ground at will.

Collingwood goes for 19 238-5.

pietersen reverse sweeps one of the best bowlers in the world for six, then goes a couple of balls later plum lbw :(
