Second Test Thread

Awful drop from Monty, schoolboy stuff. Bless him, I hope it doesn't ruin his Test career. You can't really hide him with attacking fields like this so he's at mid off, when really he should be at cow. Just a gentle loop up and down it went. He works bloody hard on his fielding and catching too.

And his batting. So he's a terrible fielder, terrible batsman.

Is his spin bowling good enough to get him a place in the ashes team?

Giles will return and be #1 again I think, with Monty going as back-up. It must be a concentration thing with Monty. Tufnell was the same and he improved (fielding) a great deal so it can be done.

Well, Jones' fielding is apparently good enough to get him in the team as a specialist fielder...

Read can't bat, Jones can't catch (although he has improved of late).

Time for Foster? Trouble is Fletch "likes" Jones.

It tells a story but not the whole story.

What's Golden Boy's average, anyway?

30 odd off the top of my head.

Edit: 28.5

I'd go with Foster anyway who was doing okay but got injured.

I hate this fucking sniping. I'm going to start my own cricket thread, with no bitching, and extra beer and chocolate and Star Wars stuff.

28.05 in 27 Tests. Not remotely enough, I'd say, for a keeper who I'd rate as the worst England glovesman I've ever seen.

He takes an average of 3.63 catches per Test, compared to Jack Russell's 2.83 and Alec Stewart's 1.98.

We have a world class attack now which means more wickets. I certainly can't remember another England 'keeper dropping so many chances. Tell me this, if he couldn't bat do you think he'd be anywhere near the side?

The Sri Lankan tail appears to be more proficient with the bat than the top order. Perhaps they should just open with their number 11 in future and work their way up?
